Who makes frame lock folders besides Sebenza?

Hi guys!

I keep reading great threads about the safety of frame locks (are integral locks the same?)over liner, axis, lock back, etc. and was wondering who else makes them besides Sebenza, want to know from affordable to custom made so I can choose.

I am currently considering to get a Sere 2000, I know it has a liner lock, how safe is it? up until I read the safety threads about nasty cuts and missing fingers, I thought all the locking mechanisms were about the same, I stand corrected.

It´s going to be my first real knife, I have used for EDC since I was 9 a SAK (What steel is it?)and know 22 years later I carry a SAK Champion but want to get me a good folder, and want to know who makes folders with this lock setup.

I appreciate any help, since I did a search but it returns about 2000+ matches, but none helpful, and 1Stop doesn´t have them ordered by lock mechanism (Would be great if they did)

Thanks and hope to read from you soon.

Alex,

First of all, welcome to the forums. Yes, as far as I know, integral locks, frame locks, mono locks, etc. are all the same. The frame lock that comes to mind immediately is the Camillus EDC. It's a very nice knife design and is well executed, plus now you get a choice of D2 for the blade!

AlexGT,

You may want to check out the Camillus EDC, a great value entry level frame lock with a choice of blade materials, 154CM, D2 and the more expensive Talonite. The Camillus EDC is a collaboration with Darrel Ralph who also makes the custom versions. Another Frame Lock maker to consider would be Tom Mayo.

I have no experience with the SERE but it seems to be highly regarded.

Good luck with your choice,

Gord

Some locks are safer than others by design, but if a lock is built correctly it should be safe. Yes framlocks are strong because theyve got alot of "meat" behind them. I have two new framelocks coming out, ones a pocket knife sized knife, the other is the same design only larger, fitting in the medium sized range. I also do a heavy duty verison of my tactical, with very thick liners ( .083 ) to be exact, so you get a framelock strength with the bueaty of bolsters and handle scales. If youre interested, drop me an email, I can send pics.

The EDC by Camillus is a great knife and there are a couple of blade steel choices including talonite. Another frame lock that comes to mind is the Benchmade 750 Pinnacle.

kershaw, benchmade, Columbia River, Camillus, Mission

Custom-lots

Darrel Ralph, Ken Onion, Tom Mayo, these are the big boys that make them around here.

AfFordable custom-> Wilson/Ralph tactical elite.

Your Sak is probably 420HC or 440A, i would bet 420.

CRKT makes a framelock, the S-2, little less expensive than some other choices.

If you want to try a frame lock, get a Camillus EDC. This s the least expensive way to try a quality frame lock.

Is the Chris Reeve Mnandi a frame lock?

In the same price range as the Sebenza, you may be surprised to know of the Tab stop lock designed by Bob Dozier. It is used in his medium sized titanium handled Tab Stop folder. And locks the blade at the front and the rear of the blades tang! Dual integral/ frame lock with his Bobs famous D2 heat treat steel. An honest, well made hard working custom/ handmade folder at only $300!

I would choose the Camillus EDC or CRKT S2 for a daily low budget knife and I would buy a Camillus CUDA MAXX because it is bad ass.

Don't forget the CRKT titanium Mirage. Neat little knife for about $60. Oh, and there's the CRKT Kiss too.

Lots and lots of framelock folders! will give a good look at all the sugestions, thanks!
:D

RedMag,

That is a great site. Is there a translated version, doesen't seeme like it would take too much time for a german/english speaking person to translate that little text forf each picture, or even someone to describe the knives in english. I am sure someone here knows what each of those knives are and when they were made/developed. Thanks again my man.

That collection belongs to forum member Marcus Blattner in Austria. Good stuff!

your best bet for a cheaper quality framelock would be the CRKT s-2 or Cuda EDC. you can get the s-2 on ebay for around 25-30 dollars! thats what i call cheap, it has ats-34 blade and titanium handle, you can't beat that with a stick
