Who makes good leather Bark River sheaths?

The belt sheath that came with my Mini Canadian isn't remotely worthy of the knife. I usually carry it in a Russell Woodswalker hip pocket sheath, but that's a lot of leather for a little knife and I'd like a decent belt sheath too.

The 2007 sheaths for Bark Rivers shown on the DLT website look nice, but aren't available for separate sale. Where could I get reasonably priced Bark River sheaths for my Mini Canadian?

Call Bark River and talk to Mike Stewart. He is a super guy and will most likely send you one.

Foilist,
Maybe BRKT will send one to you, but hang on if you're going to buy. I'm going to send you one I made for that mini-Canadian you sold me. I recently upgraded it for my daughter and now the first one I made is the one I'll send. It's out of 8-9oz leather, which is a trifle heavy, but now I'm using 6-7oz for everything Highland-size and under. It was one of my very first sheaths and, if you like it, you write your preferences and I'll make a tailor-made one for you. The ones I make do not cover so much of the handle - they leave plenty sticking out so you can grab it and they're tightly wet-molded to the small part of the handle that does go into the sheath.

Stretch, that's a real generous offer. Are you sure you don't want anything for it?

I checked out JRE, and those are nice, but their only offering for a Mini Canadian is a pocket sheath. I wonder if the Mini would fit in any of their other small sheaths?

JRE makes the current standard Mini-Canadian sheath that has a belt loop. Go back to the JRE website, get their phone number or email address and contact them. They're great guys (Dan and Spen), and will set you up with any sheath you want.

Although Stretch's offer sounds darned good too!

Thanks for the link. I've got a Hedgehog I won't carry anymore until I find or make a leather sheath.

Looks like I'll buy one first.

JRE made this one. It is slightly shorter than the standard Aurora sheath and meant for the Fox River. Dan and Spen are good guys and have always been good to me.

k_estela, how do the JRE sheaths hold the Aurora? I've got the Northstar and both of the sheaths that Bark River used. Neither sheath is worth a darn and I'm ready for another.

The Aurora fits in the sheath very snugly. The generous palm swell and overall contours of the handle make it fit nicely in the sheath. I've had luck treating the sheaths with beeswax and it does make a difference. I haven't treated this one yet but it is due for it soon. The sheath pictured here is the smaller version of the Aurora sheath. The Fox River fits very low in the standard Aurora sheath but with this one, more of the handle is exposed when you grab it.

That's my biggest beef with the Bark River sheaths..... not enough handle sticks out. Truly though, I suppose their pocket-style sheaths are better that way - the handle is protected and at least enough sticks out so you can extract the knife. But still, I like the knife to fit more snugly and show a little more leg.
