Was wondering who else now makes large (10 inch or so) bowies other than Cold Steel? I heard Ontario used to make them but I dont think they do any longer.

Ontario's Spec Plus Marine Raider Bowie is one you might consider (9.625" blade). I don't have it, but I do have a couple other knives from the Spec Plus series, and the quality is excellent.

+1

I have that knife and like it. I purchased a FS for $40.00 at Chestnut Ridge Knife Shop. The edge sucked, but I'm used to that from buying machetes, so I just spent some time fixing it. Even at full price [$50-60], it's a high value blade.

I love the looks of Boker's bowies, but I have absolutely no use for them. Don't know how good they are...there's one that looks just like this with a stag handle instead, too.

Benchmade makes one now, in 1095, black coated.

Browning competition bowie is great for the money...

Ontario Raider is an impressive chunk of steel for only around $60..

Busse and Fehrman make plenty of big bad moddern bowies too.

Randall made knives, are some of the best looking, hand made here in the US, and you can option them for a personal touch.

Can't be bested IMO, the wait time is a lesson in patience.

Spec Plus made a knife called the survival bowie at one point. I have one and have found it to be a very useful knife. I also own the marine raider and find the survival bowie to be the better performer. I put a razor sharp convex grind on mine and it's been outstanding. I leave it in my truck because it's not so pricey that I worry about it getting stolen. Of course when I want to bring a serious large knife out with me, I take my Busse NMFBM.

one thing about the Ontario Gen II Spec Plus line - the coating comes off QUICK!!! i've had mine for maybe 2 months and there's probably 30% of the coating gone. this is just from normal use. otherwise the knife is great and i'm sure their other models are probably of comparable quality. however, it is a little on the light side. my SP42 has a 7" blade, yet only weighs 9.6oz as compared to an ESEE 5 that has a 5.25" blade and weighs 16oz. if this lack of weight was also present in their larger models, it would make me want a thicker bowie.
