I saw Southpaw Knives in a magazine at work and it got me thinking. My Dad is left handed and he uses the last knife I gave him all the time. Who else makes left handed folders?

Spyderco makes most of their knives ambi, Strider will make left handed models on occasion, most Benchmades are tip down clip swappable between left and right, Chris Reeve has the left hand option I believe.

Severtech makes a Lefty model if you are looking for an Auto. Dalton did too I think. Will ? the custom maker makes some. I can't remember if he is here or the JD though. Other then that BM axis lock is great for left handed people

I guess I wasn't thinking about ambi knives and more about a left handed specific knife. You guys have given me some ideas. Thanks for the help as usual!

The better question is "Which locking mechanisms are ambidextrous?"

Lock back yes, Benchmade Axis lock yes, SOG Arc lock yes, Spyderco ball bearing lock yes, roll lock yes, liner lock no, frame lock no, various other button and lever locks no. Of course you can sometimes contort to make any system work with your left hand, but they are not as easy to use.

In general I prefer ambi systems because they can be used no matter what your other hand is busy doing. (Plus I'm left handed.)

While my LH Sebbie is a liitle more "user friendly" I also have a RH SnG which, once I got used to it, I found was reasonably east to operate. In fact, I can close that more easily than I can my lock back Spyderco.

I guess I've just gotten used to living in a RH world!

On this note, what would happen if you took two frame lock scales from sebenzas (right/left) and put them on one knife? Would it be impossible to use for either hand?

That sounds... crazy! The contact side of the blade tang would have to be ground for both though, as they are specifically made for a RH/LH version framelock.

I have never had an issue closing a rh liner with my left hand. I actually think using the lock for the "wrong" hand is a bit easier and more natural for me.

Wenger used to make true lefties,I don't know if they still do. Spyderco as has been mentioned is ambi. but in a sense, with serrations,it actually is a lefty, especially from a cooking point of view. I hated Sal Glesser(kidding) when he started making removeable clips, because then every time they improved the enduras and delicas ,I had to buy two at a time(or three) one for each pocket and sometimes the safe.

I forgot about that. It would be an interesting knife. It would be a pain to release though, two fingernail seperating the lock bars and then you would have to try to close the blade at the same time.
