I believe that I read that MM knives were made by Camillus and queen. Is this accurate? Any advantage to buying from MM Vs. The manufacturers? Also, camillus has a close-out congress for 15 bucks-the yello=jacket series.

These have been dicussed here and from what's been said the upper end Mooremaker's are made by Queen and the working series are made by Camillus.

Near as I can tell, there're a couple of advantages. Of course, we may not agree on what constitutes an advantage.
First, the folks at MM area as nice as they can be, and very accomodating. I recently ordered a buffalo horn stockman that didn't quite fit my needs, and sent it back with a note that I'd like to exchange it for a moose pattern knife. Dave Moore called me up and we spent a good twenty minutes discussing handle materials and so forth, so they could get me the knife that I wanted. As far as I'm concerned, that's the kind of business to patronize.

Also, I don't believe that Queen sells any knives under their own name that use 1095 blades, whereas all but a few of the MM knives use 1095. I think it's 1095, anyhow. It's definitely a good carbon steel, and very easily sharpened. Not that D2 isn't good stuff, but by and large I prefer the older carbon steels. On the other hand, Camillus may well make some knives using 1095 or other carbon steel, but I couldn't find them in looking at the Camilus website.

So those are my reasons. Hope that helps.

I ditto what J Alexander said....

MM has knives made on special order...patterns and 1095 blade steel that Queen amd Camillus do not offer in their own product lines.

I'm also one of the few that is not wild about the D2 steel....lost of effort to sharpen or even to resharpen...and I don't find the edge holding to be great even though I don't use mine very hard.

Moore Maker is a small-ish family owned operation in Matador, TX. They also carry a pretty decent line of farm/ranch tools (which is what I usually buy). They are an awesome company to do business with and will go out of their way to personally get you what you want. Their web address is: http://www.mooremaker.com

Hope this helps if you're looking to buy from them.

I've done business with them. You don't just call up and get somebody hired off the street to give your order to. You will be talking to one of the owners of the company and by the time you are finished, you will feel like one of the family.

For someone like me who uses only 1095 steel, Mooremaker is a Godsend. Case has cut way back on its cv line, and Schrade is out of business. Yes, I know, there are several German knife companies that make 1095 but I prefer to buy American. Mooremaker has many different patterns and sizes to choose from. Most of their production is yellow handle knives. If you are not crazy about them, they have a dark color buffalo horn too.
