What maker makes the best survival knife, I saw some of John M. Clausen's work (German, ever heard of him) he does knives with piggy back style sheath and a holder for a mini-maglite and zippo lighter, what maker do you think makes a knife that suits a survival COURSE, not emergency. I know that what ever knife you have on you is good at the time of an emergency but if you had the choice???

Tim Britton seems good!!!

Don't be a wise guy!
What d'ya hunt with a knife?
Name it!

Nobody makes the BEST knife for any purpose. Many makers make good 'survival' type knives.

Would you care to define the purpose of this Ideal hypothetical knife and in what way it should optimally perform to help save my butt?

Some think that a Swiss Army knife or multi-tool is the Best survival knife. Or do you play the Survival Game with Only one knife for all things? Will your survival knife need to be a weapon or a tool? Will you have to battle ferocious beasts or crazed maniacal human beings? Or skin small critters, sharpen spears, make other wooden tools, make clothing, etc.? Will this be surival in the forest, mountain, or desert? Will we have to hunt, or open cans? Will this be War or Peace? Is there anyone else around, or am I surrounded by Bad guys or Good guys? Or both?

I guess I can't answer your question. I have way too many of my own.

Oh, do I win a million dollars if I pick the right knife?

Edge,

Walter Brend Model 2, 8 1/2" blade of D-2 Steel. In the pouch on the sheath, insert a Swiss Army knife.

Class dismissed...next thread.

By the way, love the quote from First Blood. That scene and the scene from Apocalypse Now when the helicopters are coming over the palm trees at dawn make me want to "ruck up" and move out.
