I looking simple belt sheath for my ESEE-3mil. I want the belt loop to be made of Kydex and I want it to ride fairly high on my strong side. My belts are 1.5" Wilderness instructor belts. I want the sheath in OD. So who makes the nicest/cleanest looking sheath??? Thanks for the help.

Check out the sticky above "Sheathmakers and such of Blade Forums"

All the best makers are there, and lots of pictures to boot.

The number one request I get is to drop and offset a knife so it's away from the body but high and tight is no problem, and IWB is no problem either. My standard belt-loop is 1-3/4" but honestly I'd consider using a lg. Tek-Lok which gives you the advantage of taking the knife on and off without having to remove your belt. Here's some random pics of basic pancake sheath setups.... on a pancake sheath the back will be black no matter what color the front is.

An even better idea, I make sheaths that match the shape and hole pattern of the KaBar TDI Clip and I've done one for a 3 but can't find it... basically it will mount high and tight just like you want. Here's some sheaths I've made for smaller knives that attach to the TDI Clip.

Better example of the TDI on a larger knife (BK15):

I would square off the bottom of the sheath though and mount the clip lower because the ESEE-3 is shorter than the knife shown... just thinking outloud.

Let me know what you think and you can contact me through my signature too. Might need some coating done later this year too... do you/can you use Norells Tan on a couple of JP rails I have?

Here's a real answer ;)

Your question is like asking "who makes the best knife?"

Each sheath maker has his own style and specialties just like knife makers. Just look around the "makers" thread and see what style sheaths you prefer!

Ok you sold me. I wanna got with black kydex. I'm thinking taco style. Anyway to make a fixed belt loop? I don't want clips or anything. The loop would need to be 1.5"x .20". And I also want to cant the knife forward slightly(see pic). The ride height in the pic is good. Give me a ring when you wake up. I need to send you payment. How long will it take?

I use Cerakote but I reckon I can get some inferior Norell's:). I'm coating a SCAR rail in FDE today, I'll post a pic later.

If you want a comfortable, snug, high ride carry for a 1.5" wilderness instructor's belt, I'd strongly suggest using a Spyderco G-Clip for belt attachment, no matter who makes the sheath. Multiple carry positions including IWB. Though it's not the ESSE, here's a pic of one in use on a Kasper Companion, which is similarly sized.

Patrick, got your email and this message and just replied. Can't wait to see the SCAR rail in FDE... I've got a mixture of Tan (Arredondo, Viking Tactics, Surefire, Cavalry Arms, Troy & VLTOR) parts and Magpul FDE grips on both of them and I think I was just hung up on a "tan-ish" color but whatever you have will be fine. Here in AZ black gets real hot and when I shoot competitions everything is in the sun all day long so I'm hoping to cut down on the heat and it just looks kewl. I sent you info about them with a price request.

Have a great day!,

Eli

ps: thanks for the picture, I can't tell you how much it helps when I'm designing a rig to have an "exact" angle etc. Also, I sent you info on a fixed Kydex belt-loop... the angle you want isn't standard (45*, etc.) so this will make it exact.

Today I Cerakoted(also got to play with my new Hoyt Spyder Turbo:cool:) something for myself. I know, I know... I should be working... but...:D So the sheath Eli is making me will before this knife.

That came out nice... I wasn't expecting the edges of the scales to have the same pattern too, looks great. Don't think it went out in time but I sent you delivery confirmation numbers last night so worst case this will be picked up on Monday and on it's way to you.

Like I said before having your photo to go from was great and really simplified my job, I already have a box of these sheaths made up so I only had to trim and adjust one of my Kydex belt-loops. This belt-loop is slightly larger than your belt (1.5") so a small adjustment can be made either direction, other than that everything else is exact to your request.

Here's your sheath with the picture comparison, this sheath is slimmer, stronger, lighter, faster etc. than the stock setup but made of a thicker material (.093) and that's just the weight difference with the light-weight boot-clip which doesn't work for your application. Lol, I just realized I bumped the "r" key on my way to "e", trust me it's a belt in the picture not a "brelt":D

Here's some more pics of the belt-loop and the back of the sheath:

Thanks!,

That is a sexy looking brelt sheath!!!:D Looks good my friend, can't wait until I get it. The factory one is pretty crappy on a belt but it works pretty good with the black nylon/cordura/whatever backing. I'll keep the factory sheath on my chest rig and the one you(aka Eli) made me will me my EDC. I'll take some cool pics of it when I get it. I also have a Izula but I don't know what I want to do with it yet. I also want to pick up a bigger ESEE that can replace my beat up Glock knife. You'll have to give me some ideas for those. No neck knives though, it freaks me out for some reason.

Great, I can't wait to see pictures of the two together.... if you don't mind I'd like to add them to my site too. For the Izula, I'm pretty sure no one has more options than GST but I've got a pretty crazy EDC sheath setup for small knives I'll be "announcing" by next week. Sounds like you need an ESEE-5 or 6... whenever you're ready I'll send you a bunch of pictures of different setups for them.

Eli

Check out my page. We do custom sheath for all knives i have a photo gallery you can see all of our work.

Yes, but when I make a sheath this specific I put some thread-locker on the screws to keep it from coming loose over time.

Shok: that setup looks great, hope you don't mind me posting them on my site (customer photos)? Thanks for posting them and I'm glad you like the sheath!
