Who makes the better SAK?

Is it Wenger or Victorinox, and what's your favorite model?

Both brands are good - but the concensus here I think leans toward Victorinox.

Here's my tool by tool comparison review of the Victorinox and Wenger flagship models:

SAKs - Victorinox or Wenger

My favorite model is the Victorinox Scientist -

SAK - Purchase Rationale

You get your money's worth for both victorinox ang wenger.

Victorinox looks better but more expensive.

Wenger is cheaper but the quality is still good.

I like both of them.

My wish is that they will make a SAK that is a combination of V and W. I like some of the tools from victorinox but not all of them, same with wenger.

Victorinox, I own three of them. My favorite one is the Champ. My oldest one is 23 years old. Don't know the name, it has scissors and the standard tools, but no toothpick or tweezers. I did own a Wenger once. It was the smallest cheapest one. It had bladeplay and it wasn't nearly as well build as a Victorinox, so it's Victorinox all the way for me.

It's my first post, i must have done something wrong with the "back button and refresh". Sorry

The first was my Grandpa's that he geave to me before he died. I don't know the model but it's got everything I need and a couple of things I don't. Good knife but heavy. And I got a Highlander a little while ago (think Tinker with a nail file instead of the little blade). At $10 the Highlander was a best buy. It is exactly what I wanted in a light EDC. Now if I could just find the perfect multi-tool. If Vic offered a Tinker with a file instead of the little blade I would have a Vic. YMMV

I prefer Victorinox, but I'm not really sure why. I guess it might be that my favorites are the Tinker/Super Tinker. In terms of quality, I think they are both about the same.

I prefer the tool designs in the Victorinox knives over the Wenger, plus I can consistently get a sharper edge on the Vic's blades.

My favorite models are:

Soldier
Explorer
Scientist
Mauser (discontinued)

Not o long ago I read a review between the two standard Swiss issue knives from Victorinox and Wenger. It was the Soldier model.

The Victorinox model had superior edge retention and was put together a little nicer but the Wenger's awl worked better at centering a hole when drilling.

Both are excellent when compared to any other knives that cost less than $20.00 or even twice that!

Victorinox. I like my Swiss Champ XLT, but I'll admit I don't ever carry it. :) I EDC my Midnight Manger II on my keys, and it comes in handy (pen, light, scissors, bottle opener, phillips, blade, etc) Wengers always feel cheap and junky to me.

I have to say that I prefer to carry one of each. The reason is that I just don't like the Victorinox scissors. That darn spring has broken on me too many times, while the Wenger mechanism hasn't let me down yet. It may bind from time to time, but I personally prefer it to the spring. Having said that, I prefer to carry the Wenger equivalent of the classic (never can remember the name) along with a Victorinox Spartan- because if I'm honest with myself (a truly scary proposition when it comes to knives) it has everything I may need during the day.

Sincerely,
Anthony
