I just bought a Rat1 and Rat2. Both are very impressive. Spyderco has some of their very finest models produced in Taichung, Taiwan, so I'm not too worried. The Rat 2 is orange g10/ satin 3" blade tip to grip; 2.72" edge; 0.093" thick AUS-8. This blade which is just less than three inches is just perfect for gifting to relatives in those states which have a 3" blade limit. I bought it for a 12-yr-old grandson.
The Rat 1 is also a very nice folder. Brown G10/satin blade.
Both knives feel good in the hand; even the Rat 2 fits me pretty well, although I'll take the Rat 1 for myself.
Both have tight lockup with no blade wiggle. Centered blades; nice detent. No hotspots that are obvious. The Rat 1 has been such a favorite on this forum that I just had to try one. 3.3" blade edge; 3.6" tip to grip; 0.115" blade thickness.
Both AUS-8 blades have double thumb-studs and four-way clip placement. The G10 is "just" grippy enough...not to be slippery.
This confirms my faith in Taiwan blades; they exercise awfully good fit and finish over there.
