I didn't see anyone mention this yet:

re: "melting and casting of bronze, silver, gold, and even cast iron, using an unmodified domestic microwave oven as the energy source."

Is this a joke? Don't think you could forge with it; what about tempering them? (doubt you could get enough precision?)

Clearly not a joke but I think I'll let him work all the bugs out before I try it. :D Follow the Reid Technique page too though, this has possibilities. I've been thinking about lost wax, this almost clinches it. I guess I need to get out the Rio Grande catalog and compare costs.

Thanks for a very interesting and potentially life altering link!

How cool is that!!!

I've even got an extra microwave lying around:D Been using it to melt AOL CD's I get in the mail all the time, but this is even better!!! Maybe I could use it to cast guards???

Don't know about that one. Microwave here shoots a lot of sparks with any metal inside.

Induction furnaces very popular in the steel making industry, but they work a lot different.

did you read all the lit on this stuff they're
not just sticking a fork in the micro?
With out progress we'd still be making knives out of rocks.
ya ya I know some still do..
You are using a computer to post here:rolleyes:
that's progress too,,
We try too step forward not backwards So
I say go for it..just keep good insurance:D
