Who owns a Kahr P380?

Thinking about this as a secondary carry pocket pistol. My main carry gun is a Glock 36.I always seem to have a bad habit of researching anything to death.I have found several bad reviews but would like to hear from some of you who actually own or have shot the pistol enough to prove it is reliable.

I like the Glock style firing pin block and the better sights over a Ruger LCP.During my research I also ran across the Diamondback 380 which seems as close to a mini Glock as possible but there are many mixed reviews on this gun from a new company I don't think has proven it'self. At least this is the first time I've heard of Diamondback.

Basically I want to get the Kahr P380 over a Keltec or Ruger because it looks better quality to me.The bad reviews however have me wondering if I should stay away from Kahr or if it's just internet BS like you read about any product when you search long enough.

Kahr makes a good gun. I've had the Mk9 and the Mk40 (both were excellent, accurate guns), but not the 380. I'd probably have one, but the Micro Desert Eagle hit the shelves first and I'm so happy with it that I never got to the Kahr.

In any event, there aren't as many bad reports on the Kahr as there are on the DB or Sig 238.

Good luck with your Quest.

I have a Kahr 380 (and three Sig 238s) and from my experience, at least, they're all exceptional little guns. The Sigs have the accuracy advantage in my hands (hard to beat a light single action trigger) but all have been reliable and not fussy with their ammo.
I can find you people who hate Glocks, hate 1911s, hate Ruger revolvers, hate S&W revolvers, etc. and all of them have fifty stories about how whatever you like is terrible and what you really need is _____. Most of it is complete BS. My advice is the same as my advice with any semi-auto for self defense: suck up the cost and put 200 rounds of whatever ammo you're going to carry (not FMJs unless you're going to carry FMJ) through the gun. If there are going to be feeding problems, ejection problems, or anything else, they'll show up in that time. Make sure the gun has been oiled up prior to use, many manufacturers ship them pretty dry these days. In 380, I'm very fond of Hornady's Critical Defense round--it's a well designed hollow point but it's also a VERY tapered bullet design, even more so than the average FMJ, and I've yet to find a 380 pistol that will hiccup with it (and I have a bunch, including an Erma mini-Luger which usually hates anything that isn't FMJ).

If the Kahr floats your boat, buy it---and don't spend too much time listening to the "gurus" on the net. Half of 'em have nowhere near the experience base they claim to. Of course, you might then wonder why you should listen to me... :p

No, seriously, I DO know what I'm talking about. :D

VA27---I've had a hard time resisting that little Micro-Eagle. It's heavy, but is a slick little gun.

I've had very good luck with my Kahr 9mm- amazing accuracy out of a small pistol, and it gets great reviews. Why not step up?

My research shows that the Kahr P380 was introduced about the middle of 2008.Is there any significient difference between thoes first models and the current production model? Nowdays it seems companies let their customers do early product testing and research and then try to fix the problems in later models. If I look at a used P380 is there a higher serial number I should look for in a used gun?

Thanks for the input guys.
Randy

My wife has a Kahr p380 and we've fired 300 or 400 rounds through it without a malfunction attributed to the gun. Friends of ours that have tried it said that the trigger and felt recoil is superior to their diamondback or lcp.

There hasn't been a recall that I've heard of. Call Kahr and ask them--they're not going to lie to you--if there's been a design update with later-production pistols.
Okay, on reflecting there is ONE thing which might be worth noting--this is not a malfunction that I've actually experienced personally, but a friend of mine discovered that the little Pierce Grip extender (tiny finger groove that gives your pinky somewhere to go) actually made the magazine seat about half a millimeter shallower than it would otherwise, and this was causing intermittent stove-piping. I only have the flush-fitting magazines, as I carry the gun in a shirt pocket and have never sought the Pierce, but it IS a popular accessory. I'd avoid it, unless you just want it for range practice. Of course, if you're not going to carry with it, I don't honestly see the benefit of practicing with it as it changes the feel of the gun, and you're trying to get good with the gun.

I've got one. 500+ rounds through it with no problems. CRAZY accurate. My first three rounds through it cloverleafed! I'd recommend a Nemesis pocket holster.

Get one, you won't regret it.

How old is yours? Just wondering if it was an early or later model.Did you do any special cleaning or polishing or such before taking it to the range? What ammo do you use?

Sorry for all the questions but it is a fairly large purchase for me especially since the Rugar and Kel-Tec are about half the price. The way I am though,I wouldn't be happy with the Ruger or Kel-Tec and would wind up buying the Kahr also eventually.

Other neat holster options are the new offerings from Sticky Holster. They're inexpensive and work great--been carrying my Glock 19 in one every day for the past three months now, and am very impressed. Tucked, IWB carry with no clips or loops. :)

I've had mine for a couple of years. Shot it a lot at the beginning and now just a mag or two when I go to the range. Took it to the range last week with the wife. She shot 4 mags at 10 yards and the majority of the rounds were in a paper plate.

Keep it clean and it'll run for you. I carry a Kahr PM9 on a regular basis and just got a Ruger LC9. The LC9 is a nice piece. The wife likes it and I'd rather have her shooting a 9 than a 380. Bottom line is a Kahr P380 gives you a match grade barrel and extraordinary accuracy.

If you have the finances get the Kahr.

I make a mean IWB holster for it... send me an email at topsblades@gmail.com for info.

Take care,

Rick
