Pros and cons of each,i have 7 Opinel knives at the moment,12,10,9,8,garden knife and 2 no6.Should I get couple of slim versions?Do they cut better than regulars, how fragile are the blades for normal cutting?I was thinking of getting slimline no12 and 10.

Of all the Opinels I have accumulated over time, I only use one slim (Effile) #8 to open my mail.

Can’t say that I prefer the Effile. I only have the one No.10. I have filed off the trailing point to a straight spine, and will probably keep going to drop the point a little. It takes quite a good edge, but is still too long for ne to want to carry. I can’t detect that it cuts any better than the standard blades, but It should be handy when it comes time to carve pumpkins.

I have a 6 and 8 regular and an 8 slim. The slim immediately went into the "camping gear" tub, then from there into the "excess camping gear" tub. The blade shape just doesn't do it for me so it's relegated to backup status. Maybe it's good for slicing open things or opening mail but I'm not feeling it. Kinda reminds me of a French Texas toothpick.
But then again like Henry says, maybe it'll get pumpkin duty in a week or two. I can see it being good for deep detailed carving.
