hi, I have a knife I am trying to find out about. It is a 12.5" hunting knife that has a hand-etched logo of a bear walking in front of mountains (all in a circle). Supposedly, it was made in Texas some time ago... Does any one know who the maker is?

The knife you own is made by Bear MGC, or formally Edgeco. It is American made in Alabama.

Bear MGC, is the only commercial knife manufacturer in the U.S. making Damascus Blades.

Company Logo.

To find more about your knife, type Bear MGC in a search engine and you will come upwith the result you are looking for.

Lissa welcome to bladeforums.:)

Bear is now owned by Swiss Knife Co., if I remember right, and it's within a couple of miles of my house. I'm not sure who is suppling their damascus now. It was being supplied by Edwards Steel, but they closed up. The company was started by Fain Edwards and his son Gus took it over and ran it until he closed down the operation. They used to make some good looking random pattern.

hi everyone, thanks so much for all the info! I have pics of it, but can't get them on here. I was told that it was made by someone named zip in texas, but who knows. It is a really pretty, ornate knife, and the logo is obviously hand etched on it. You have given me a place to start, and I appreciate that!
