Went to a tractor and steam engine swap meet yesterday, I like to walk around and look for knives and try to sell some related stuff I have at home and because everyone in the county shows up I usually run into somebody I know.
There was nothin but the cheap stuff they sell on late night tv, you know 200 knives for $200. There were quite a few tables selling the same cheap stuff but I look anyway and every once in awhile I get lucky and find something good and sometimes I even get to educate someone on the differences between cheap knives and old knives.
All the way in the back of the open area flea market where you usually find the junk nobody wants was an old man with a table full of rusty old tools and bunch of cheap Chinese pocket knives.
While looking through a tray of knives I saw this dirty, greasy but familiar shape peeking out of the pile, so I pull it out of the tray and start wiping it off with rag I had in my pocket, (can't go to a swap meet without a rag cause ya know you're gonna get dirty). As I wiped off some of the grease I saw the words, "STAINLESS HANDLE" stamped in the side of the scale of an equal end Jack that if I had to guess, looked to be from the 60s .
Now I always haggle, whether at yard sales, flea markets or swap meets I always try to get it cheaper than the asking price. (Hey it's in my blood what can I say?) but when I saw the $1 price on the sticker I wasn't even gonna try, I even told the old guy I thought a dollar was really low. He told me that was all he wanted, and besides he said I was the only person who picked it up all day and took the time to check it out. He said, "...you know that's really the best knife in the it just needs a little TCL." I said, "I know, I could tell."
After I gave gave him my dollar he told me that he could tell that the knife was going to a good home. As I finished wiping the dirt and grease off the knife, I thanked the old man and put my new treasure in my pocket till I could get home and do a better job cleaning the knife.
Well when I finished cleaning the tang I saw the stamp, it said

As soon as I get a chance I'll post some pics.
This knife had a great snap the blades are about 85% and its in great shape, who says you can't get a good knife for a $1?
