Who sells replaceable Misch Metal Flints for the RAT FIRE KIT?

I was just curious not that I have used up my entire flint on my RAT FIRE KIT, but does anyone know where I could locate the same one to have on hand as a future replacement? I cant seem to find any sources online or on this forum, and maybe they are not available yet.
 
Really, considering the low cost, and how long it'd take to kill the rod, just buy a new one.
 
Going Gear will have the size you need, but you'll have to drill the hole yourself, which might be difficult without a drill press with a good vise/jig.
 
who makes the kit's for rat?, does anybody know? i'd like to buy a couple of extra
rod's for mine too.
 
I believe Jeff once said they had the rods custom produced. I'm not sure there's anyone making that specific mix. Going gear and firesteel are close, but not quite the same.

Dizwolf, I believe you are correct. If I remember, and believe me I tried to look thru ALL the threads to find it, Jeff made a disagreement with a customer regarding the firesteel. Someone wanted Jeff to tell him a fixed # of strikes that the firesteel would produce (something like that). Not 100% sure, would a small firesteel fit into the firekit capsule?
 
I guess if it was less than 1” long. Probably better served putting some tinder in there instead of a backup rod. I would expect to get thousands of strikes out of that rod, not dozens. These things will last a long time.
 
Yea. I use my kits a ton. Hell, I had a very small keychain rod while I was in the scouts, I hit that thing all the time and never wore it out. With the large size of the rat rod, I think it'd take years of real use to kill it. Those rods are good all the way through, and just spark more as they wear toward the middle.
