I am looking to send my Koster Survivor to someone to have a convex edge put on it.

The knife is A2 heat treated by Paul Bos.

Who have you used to sharpen your convex edge and what knife did you do it too.

Maker of the knife and steel would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Paul

I've never sent a Knife to this Man yet, But If I was to send a Knife to anyone I would send the Knife to this Sharpening Sevice, Through my Research He's The Best his Work speak's for It self ! Check out his Site and Video's,

Richard J and Siguy are active forum members here. I have yet to use their services but i have not yet heard anything but high praise for their work (they both specialize in convex edges and fast turnaround times i believe)
best of luck, and i hope we get to see some before and after shots here.
Russell.

I sent my Busse FFBM to Simon, Siguy here on the forums, for some convexing. He did an awesome job

two that come to mind, is Horton _knives and siguy.
both make ur knives turn scary sharp.

Why not let Koster put a convex edge on it?

I just feel like Dan has a full dance card. He can't keep up with all his orders now. I don't mean that in a bad way he just seems very busy and this isn't a big job for him.

It's a valid question though.

Why not just learn how to put a convex edge on it yourself? My technique is to hone 'backwards' -- dragging the edge rather than moving it forward, with a slight rolling wrist motion (basically, lifting the back). I use DMT benchstones, BTW. There are some excellent pointers on this forum if you do a search.

You want a wicked convex edge then you need to send it to
forum member "Horn Dog".
Check him out.

Also check out forum member "Ban"

The Survivor would be an expensive and difficult knife to learn on.

You should try to do it yourself, it's not that hard. I just did it on my RAT-3 in D2 and my Great River Forge Tomahawk. It's long, but quite easy.

Here's a tuto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLohb_lJ2hI

EDIT: On second tought, considering it's a survivor (huuuge blade), don't try it without a belt sander :S

I'd recommend richard j

I sent him a few knives before getting the paper wheels. Super fast turn around, excellent results, almost too reasonable of a price...

Richard J has skills.

NOTE: I too have heard good things about siguy, but I've had first hand experience with Richard J.

I have been lucky enough to handle three different Koster Survivors in the past few months, and non of them was lacking for unsupported edge.

The thick Scandi grind on those baby’s ain’t like no thin assed Mora. :p

I would use that beast without fear.

Strop sharpen it and he edge will convex itself over time.

I just received two knives back from Richard...it's been a long day (had 10 more Soldiers depart for Afghanistan, so I just got home an hour ago)...anyways, knives arrived and the are "EXTREMELY" sharp and well done! Thanks Richard, I'll shoot you a note via email a little later...

I would recommend RichardJ for convexing your blade without reservation.

I personally have two blades, a MMHW and a BK-2 that he has convexed for me and the edges are amazing. They quite literally have to be seen to be believed.

I have used one of Richards blades that he made with a convex edge to chop with and became a believer. I chopped several 2-3 inch limbs to get a feel for the knife, whacked on a stump and then batoned it through a 5-6 inch limb. After getting through it I was still scaring hair off the ole arm with it.

The man is an artist with his tools and there are many testimonials to his work here on this site, you can't go wrong with his work.

Siguy!:thumbup: He's done several of my knives. A Carbon V Trailmaster, Becker Brute, 12" Ontario "chete. All great work --KV

I've had Siguy convex a couple for me that came back amazingly sharp.

I've heard good things about Richard J as well.

Either should fit the bill.
