Who should sharpen your knife?

I am starting this thread because of a knife I recently picked up, an Esee 5. I did quite a bit of researching on how to put a convex edge on it but I'm not confident enough to try it myself. So I started searching the threads for knife makers or members who provided the services I needed. After reading quite a bit I quickly realized that I needed to send my knife to Richard J. After I sent him an email he was kind enough to call me and explain how he would go about changing the edge on my knife and the process he would use. Then he even offered to show me how to easily maintain!!! Seeing as how I am only an hour away I'm going to head over this weekend and soak up everything he can show me. From a lot of posts I read he is man to see about getting sharp knives, so I wanted to start this thread to thank Richard in advance for everything I'll learn this weekend.

Ps. I'll post before and after pics of my Esee 5

The ESEE 5 is a great knife to convex. It's built for power and a convex edge will just improve on that.
And when Richard shows you how, you'll realize how easy a convex edge is to maintain.
(Which is why I'm moving this to Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment. :) )

tim, bring some safety glasses when you come up and anything with an edge including scissors. i'm sure you will go home with sharp knives (and know how to maintain them) and less hair :D

snow and steel, tim lives in your area. you should get with him sometime and come up for a visit and learn how to use the wheels. maybe bring up a few toys from where you work and see if we can cut down some trees with lead :D

esav, how is the edge holding up on the knife i made for you? i cant wait to see the patina you have on it either.

Yeah I'll def. be bringing some knives that need sharpened!
Be prepared for an education. Richard is a heck of a teacher and when he sharpens that chunk of 1095 you are in for a treat. It will cut better than anything you have ever tried before.
Ask him to show you the "sharpfinger" he made for me. THAT will cut anything!!!
