I dont know if I'm among the minority here or not, but I give my every day carry knife a good 5 to 10 strokes on the green jewler's rouge loaded leather strop every day when I get home, and another 5-10 on the plain leather side.

Just curious if I'm in the minority here or not.

Sure does make sharpening a cake job - just not needed any more

Each day when I go to the safe to get my "knife of the day" I strop the edge on a 1"x30" leather belt charged with white rouge. Just starts the day with a razor edge...

Sounds like you guys are putting on makeup...:D

Where do you guys get your leather strop and rouge?

As soon as my EDC won't pop hairs it gets a visit to a strop with green compound.

i put a wicked edge on all of my sharp things...level of polish is a different story...

i do strop nearly everything though, including my EDC knives, woods knives, hatchets, machetes, etc.

Yup, any knife I carry gets stropped. There just isn't any substitute for a sharp, refined edge on a blade!

I can get my Buck 110 razor sharp without a strop. I can't strop very well anyway. The knife always ends up duller then when I started.

Every day, no...several times a week yes.

Here's what else...both my EDC (OMG...yes, I only have two) are AUS steel. Combine that with type of stuff I use them for and I'm one of the very few who actually NEED to sharpen an edge every week. (Admit it, sometimes we do it just 'cuz) By the end of the week there's nearly always a knick or lump somewhere can't be taken out with cardboard or paper strops....so the lansky medium stone and sandpaper assortment gets brought out.

Should be an assortment of "crayon-like" sticks of buffing compound near the grinders/buffers. Last I looked they even had a chart denoting which color(abrasive grade) was best suited for certain materials. Can't speak to how well they work for stropping knives as I've never used them myself. Ended up getting some free from a buddy who does a lot of jewelry and lapidary work. Hope that helps.

A buddy got me a barber's leather strop years ago since he worked in a barber supply warehouse. Now he's a bartender at the VFW but that's another story. That strop is within arms reach of me right now so I strop most of mine a couple time a week. Green Rouge from a grinder's supply place on line. 6 bucks for a block about 3"x2"x1". Shoot that strop with some WD-40 and that rouge spreads on 'like butta!'

Any knife I carry and use gets stropped when I get home. I don't like edges that can't pop arm hair and spending a minute with the strop each night means much less time is spent when actually sharpening the knife.

I don't like the smell of WD-40 so I use mineral oil to help spread buffing compound on strops. I don't do daily stropping since I stopped carrying carbon steel pocket knives. It seems less necessary and less effective on stainless. When I do strop I use a harder strop than leather and treat it with sub-micron diamond grit. This seems to work better on stainless and reduces the tendency of edges to get rounded by over stropping.

I don't strop, but I give my EDC for the day about 10 strokes on a Spyderco fine benchstone in the morning. If I use a knife a decent amount throughout the day, I will sit down first thing when I get home and sharpen out any dull spots on the edge.
