I've got a Muela bowie that my older brother bought in Spain around '78 and gave to me. It's really been pretty abused and treated roughly, but I love it.
The antler handle has finally bitten the dust and I removed what is left. Surprisingly (or maybe not, I don't know much about Muelas), the tang is only about 2" long. Blade length is right around 6".
I had planned on putting together a decorative wooden handle for it but now am thinking that I'd like to have the tang extended so that I'll have something sturdier to attach to and be able to really use it.
Are there knife manglers that would weld an extension onto the tang? Is that a reasonable thing to do? I realize the worth of the knife is fairly low, but it would mean a great deal to give it more life.
Thanks in advance,
Russ
