Who USES a stainless damascus knife? Experiences?

It's strange how, unless it's a Sebenza, damascus doesn't sell quickly on BF. We must be a very UTILITARIAN group.

Still, that very phenomena allowed me to fall in love with this knife all over again before I was able to sell it:

I started carrying it in the bottom of an empty suit pants pocket and got VERY used to it. (I find it sheeple-friendly as well).

Being a graphic designer, I mostly cut paperish materials and cartons and haven't done so enough to dull this stainless damascus blade yet. I plan on keeping it and using the heck out of it. I wonder how it'll perform compared to when I used to work for a more knife-friendly company when I could carry any knife (and steel) I wanted. (154cm and VG-10 being carried most often.)

Has anyone used the heck out of their stainless damascus knives that can tell me something performance-wise? I realize it probably has to do with it's content, of which I have no idea, so this question may be a shot in the dark; I figured I'd try.

By the way, this one is on it's way back to Peter Marzitelli to get a different one of his trademark dinosaur patterns on each of the scales because, frankly, I just like dinosaurs.:D

Devin Thomas stainless damascus is generally made with AEB-L and an austenitic stainless like 302 or 304. He also makes some mixes with two high carbon steels such as AEB-l/154CM or CPM-154.AEB-L and its identical competitor 13C26 have received more and more discussion lately.

I've used a couple knives with Devin Thomas damascus before. The 302 is generally in an amount of 8-11%, and it hardly affects anything. Sometimes the edge gets "toothy" after some use.

Larrin, what steels are used in the Typhoon damascus by DT?

What does Mike Norris use? S60V, D2?

I think it's AEB-L, some of it might be 19C27, but I think it's all AEB-L. BTW, that pattern has about a million different names.

He uses 19C27 and 304, and he has some D2 in some of his mixes. He has some san-mai stuff that uses S60V in the core.

how about the damascus on the mcusta folders? is that damascus all the way through? does it hold up well?

As I understand the Mcusta is like the Shun - really a laminate with VG-10 core and damascus outer layers .The Shun kitchen knives are great !!

does this mean that the outer layers will wear away? if I sharpen it, will the damascus finish be ruined?
