I was also looking for a way to carry large fixed bladed knives on backpacking trips. I've purchased generic drop sheaths from a number of different suppliers and even tried to fashion something on my own, but nothing worked to my complete satisfaction until I came across Brian Wagner from Okuden on the forums here. He custom fabricated a drop sheath for my Chris Reeve Mountaineer II that is absolutely fantastic. The drop length on the sheath is adjustable and can be fitted with with an elastic thigh strap and/or snap retention ring. Kydex can be ordered plain or in a camo pattern. The rig is gorgeous and works like a charm. I know there are plenty of places that do this kind of thing, but Brian was polite, knowledgable and had my knife and sheath back to me in under a few days.
