Well, I searched some of my favorite knife shops here in Japan and I have found the elusive tentoumushi (ladybug in Japanese). They have plain edges, are available in black, red, gray, green, blue, red, and if Im not mistaken, I think I saw a yellow one as well. The price is a standard 3,000 yen in each shop I found them (that must be the MSRP here as stores usually never sell anything under that). In order to get an idea of the demand, how many people would like one, in what color etc. etc.
Just to note, I will not buy them and send them and am not going to profit from this at all, but I will talk with the owner of one of the shops and see if he will take business from the U.S. and send them to you. If I can tell him he will have X amount of business from the net, I might be able to convince him to give a discount. The staff in his shop said they have a website, but it is all in Japanese. Ill get the web address for you as well and an e-mail address if hes willing (he should be because the economy here is the worst its been since WWII!) The only other problem is, I dont think he speaks English so if you tell him you want a Ladybug, I doubt he will know what you are talking about.
Let me know who is interested and Ill see what I can do.
Ouch
P.S. They have some really neat Natives here with steel handles and bone, horn, and other things on them. I was told those where only for the Japanese market as well. Hmmm, so many knives, so little money.
