Okay, here’s the deal.
One of our members found this old thread.

http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum32/HTML/002811.html

He contacted me and offered to make me a VHS copy of the movie if I was interested?
Since I never saw this movie and I had waited over forty years, I said, “Sure!” He sent it to me Free of Charge, and suggested I offer it to anyone else who was interested, starting with the guys that posted on the original thread (which I have done).

Now, here’s the chance for the rest of you that want to see this movie.
What you will need to do is; First post here (to bring this thread BTTT, so that others can see it). Second is to E-mail me your Mailing Address. Third is you must agree to send it to the next person on the List (in a reasonable amount of time and at your expense). You can copy it if you like, but please don’t try to sell copies to any of our members here. That would be kind of low.

I wish I had seen this movie when I was 5 or 10, but I still really enjoyed seeing it. Don’t get me wrong, but IMO this movie is awful. They don’t even pronounce “Bowie” right, the story is stupid, you won’t know from the movie that Jim Bowie even heard of the Alamo, it’s like they just ran out of film. The acting, directing and writing is horrible, this is no “Shane”. My favorite scene in the movie (1:02) is when James Bowie orders the knife from James Black. Bowie gives him four days to make the knife and doesn’t discuss price once, why can’t all custom makers work like that? This movie was worth seeing for that scene alone.

I’m glad I saw it, but I’m sure glad I didn’t pay to see it. I think I understand now why copies of this are so hard to find. I’m not trying to turn anyone off to seeing this movie, I’m just giving an honest review.

Have you lost all of your sense?
I have to send weekly apologies to Spark & Mike just to keep my membership here.
Keep it up Cray and you'll be on My List alright.
BTW, just what is the cost of sending a package via "Dogsled"?

No, but you do have to mail it to yourself.

This is the Poster for the Movie I received.

The good news is that the Movie is in English. The bad news is that the guy that did the Poster Art obviously didn’t see the Movie. First of all Virginia Mayo (now where have I heard that name before?) never lets her hair down, and poor Alan Ladd never gets her horizontal.

My next favorite scene in the movie (1:26) where this guy shows you “How Not To Throw a Knife”....It’s priceless!

I wonder if Director Gordon Douglas was thinking of this movie when he made this quote? "Don't try to watch all the films I've directed; would turn you off movies forever"

I am interested also.

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

Phil,

I found a copy of the movie shortly after we discussed it on the original thread. The film is very 50s (Hollywood Cornball). You get the impression that someone decided to go with the project after reading through a dimestore novel, and they only discovered the hero's fate (and true lifestyle - read crook)after they were half way through the script.

I found the ending very abrupt.

Dog sled is pretty cheap. The Dog Sled mail runs on thebarter system, which should be pretty cheap. The neational Mail runs on the Peso system, so that is likewise cheap.

What is a bowie? I don' think we are allowed those in Canada...

I got an E-mail last night with a different review on “The Iron MIstress”. I thought I would share part of it here with you.

“Phil:
The trouble with the movie isn't in the movie, it is when you first saw it. If you had seen it early in your life, you would have been impressed beyond belief... When I finally got a copy of the movie a few years back, I still loved it.
That movie, along with the book has probably inspired more knife makers to hammer steel than any other. I am glad that you got it circulating again.”

I sent the video out today to one of the guys from the original thread.

If there is anyone else interested in seeing the Movie:
#1. Post here to bring this thread BTTT.
#2. E-mail me with your address.
#3. I need your promise to send it to the next member on the list in a resonable amount of time at your expense.

Just to bring you guys that are waiting for this video up to date. I sent the video out on the 8th and it won't be sent to Hugh (the first guy to respond here and #3 in line to get it) until this weekend.

There is no reason to mention the first two guys that got the video, but I am sorry they weren't a little more considerate of the others that were waiting to see it. I asked in the begining that folks send it on in a reasonable amount of time. At this rate Stickfighter can expect to get the video in June.

I received another video last week from Max Burnett. It was a video of his stepfather Bob Ogg making a folder. Bob has passed away and Max now makes knives under the name Ogg Custom Knives in his memory. This is a homemade movie shot by Max's Mom and it's great, a Classic. Bob was a very talented maker and one heck of a character. For any of you makers that want to make folders, but haven't because of all the special and expensive equipment needed to make folders. You have to see this movie. Bob didn't know you needed all this expensive equipment, he just made them with what he had. I wanted to send the video on to Ed Fowler to see, but Max told me someone was already sending him a copy, so I sent it to one of the guys from the Chat room. I watched this movie several times and I was sorry I couldn't make myself a copy. I couldn't walk for several days due to back spasms, but when I could yesterday I went to the Post Office and sent it out.

I was hoping people wouldn't treat this video just because it was free that it wasn't worthless. I guess all I'm saying is, if you're waiting to see "Iron Mistress" please be patient and considerate of the next guy.

At this rate Stickfighter can expect to get the video in June.

DOHHHHH!!!!!!!
