Who Wants The Kopa?

Under my last thread "Happy Kiwi Owner," I was instructed (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it) by Carlos to start a new thread to "encourage" Sal to put the Kopa into production.

Now, I don't know how many others out there are like me, and have a Kiwi but wouldn't mind something more substantial, or want a Kiwi, but would like it to be a little bigger. If you fall into one of these camps, apparently the Kopa is the answer to our prayers!

I, for one, would love to see a Kiwi-style knife in the 3" - 3.25" blade size. I think the idea of reviving the old-fashioned style of a jigged bone pocketknife with modern materials and design elements is a great one.

The Kiwi is a great little knife, and it rides extremely well in my pocket all day at work, but I think an even larger one could be just as, or almost as, comfortable. I'd like to give it a shot!

So, what does everyone else here think? :)

Any chance of us seeing this knife in the near future, Sal?

You can sure count me in on this one Sal, and, if Java's capsule description of the project in the "Spirit of Steel" thread on the Spyderco forum is correct, for a number of them. If I'm not reading too much into that description, the idea of an upsized Kiwi, with a variety of scale materials offered over time is very appealing to me.

I really really love the idea. The Kiwi's a great knife, and I really love the "modern traditional" thing Spyderco's got in it. I'd love to see it with a classy clip, though.

_But_, in fairness I gotta admit that, while I love the idea, I may not actually _buy_ one for quite a while. I only just got the Kiwi (and a few other new toys), so new expensive knives are off the menu for a while.

It's a great idea, though.

I'm also in line to get a larger Kiwi- I love the lines and the feel, and also would like options for bolster materials. I just started a Kopa thread on the Spyderco site, but no one has responded there. Ah well! Count me in!! A clip option would be great, too.

For me, I would like to see a clip as an option, or at least as removable.

I think the idea behind the Kiwi, as I see it, as a modern interpretation of a traditional pocketknife means that the knife doesn't have a clip. I can see the utility of one, but would prefer to not have one on such a knife.

If it's removable though, EVERYONE can be happy! :D

Well, most of the newer Spydies have removable clips, so I'm pretty confident the Kopa will be set up that way. What I might suggest, since there might be a larger percentage of folks wanting to carry it without a clip than is the case with most Spydies, would be to package the knife with the clip, screws, and a little ampule of Locktite - and let the user install it if they want it.

IMHO, the "ultimate", assuming they use one of the most common 3 hole clips, would be to then also market, as a separate item, an "upgrade" clip like the one on a C27 Jess Horn.

Depending on the size, I'd be in for a Kopa.
I liked the look of the Kiwi but it's too small for me overall.
If the Kopa is nothing more than a larger Kiwi that would be fine with me. A blade length around 2.5 to 2.75 would be perfect.

Well, after handling the Kiwi for a week, I've totally changed my mind. As long as it had a "classy clip" and good edge goemetry, I'll buy a Kopa the day it hits the market.

The Kiwi amazes me. I can't remember the last time I left the house with just one knife, and yesterday I didn't feel at all underdressed going to a concert with just a two inch blade. The design's great for utility, Sal, and it's amazingly classy (the round hole's extremely functional, but it's rarely elegant).

Seriously, even though the Kopa's sure to be priceyer than the Kiwi (prolly making it more expensive than any other knife I own), I'll be sure to pick one up. In fact, I'm going to put aside part of my next paycheck "just in case".

So, yeah. I'm a bit impressed with the Kiwi ;)
