greetings and holiday wishes 4 u.. my name is marc..
while I been attempting(procrastinating) to put together some knives for xmas gifts now 5 yrs.. maybe finally I might get a start being to start upon them a yr early for next.
about myself.. I am an artist..any medium! however one artistic ability is applied through his tools and materials . A friend of mine now sinced passed late Rick fields we met in tucson and became friends many yrs back . while we both were impressed with each others artistic ability we were both naturals as some say but not without the thousands of hours of our youth learning to make it better, or the impressions accurate.. and believe me those that are critics are the best learning tools.
I live in alaska and the ivory trade is at my back door, as other mediums for handle material. I have made a few knives but only for the friendship gifts.. I am stepping out of my old job circles and appying my art and making knives as a extra addition to available merchandise line ,this is where this is leading.
a knife maker friend of mine from montana, pete forthopher is great incouragement while I have trafficed mammoth ivory his way over the years he has introduced me to his artistic abilities as well as methods and a true craftsman of highest quality.the path of learning is at my call .
Now to some degree I will be supplying ivory at a reasonable cost , as well as some other materials, such as muskox (I mention hard to get) , which is rich in grain pattern..fossil walrus... however to have white walrus becomes a mute gray area, and old white is hard to find , yet recorded tusks do come up once in a while, the fossil walrus can be incredible color and pattern. I been carving and scrimshaw for 30 yrs .
MY Quest: I seek a wholesale outlet for damascus , but wish to have the forger use my patterns for blades. I was looking at Kovals blades available.. yet wish for my shapes with 160~ 200 folds like the loose patterns... as for custom carved handles drop me a line..goldnbones@ hotmail..I will have a web page in a few months. with introduction of useful knife embelishments I hope to wholesale , for a better evaluations . If I can be of service .
I liked the open patterns of chuck hawes in Koval .
