Can anyone tell me who won the George Herron award this year. I was pulling for GenO Denning myself.

Larry Page was the winner of this years George Herron Award.
This WILL be a annual award at Blade and should be a award that any maker should strive to participate in.
I want to thank Les Robertson, Jay (fliprfly) and his Dad, Duncan Rutherford and Rick Ward who were the judges for this year. Maybe they can pop in and give us their take. This is only the second year for the award and we are still trying to get the word out.
Feel free to email me at bobby@brantonknives.com if you have any questions.
For those of you who do not know who George Herron was, he was one of the greatest knifemakers of our time and was a huge inspiration to a lot of struggling knifemakers.

GenO wasn't there this year, I don't know if he had a knife in the contest. He did call me on the way home Saturday to firm up the details on my Mini GM :) A couple more months....JB

I saw Larry Page's knives,there at the show,nice stuff.

You will like the mini GM. GenO should update his website and list it with photos.
My avatar is my Stag scaled Mini GM (marked prptotype on the tang instead of a serial number) It is the first one that he made and is my favorite knife. i presently have 4 Dennings. A Carabou (Ironwood), 2 GM's (1 Stag and 1 Ironwood), the stag Mini. I also have a Chute knife on order.

Hello all. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond.

We had a good showing this year with 10 entries (Geno did not have a knife in the competition). The majority of the knives came from SCAK members, but we had a coupe of others as well. I did not judge the competition, but was there during the judging and I calculated the scores at the end. Each knife was graded on a 1 - 5 scales for the various characteristics that Bobby shared with everyone prior to the show. My Dad, John Mealing, Duncan Rutherford, Rick Ward and Les Robertson were the judges.
The final 3 knives were all within 1 point of each other, but Larry Page's skinner came out on top. My Dad has the pictures so I will have to add them later.
Thanks to all of the makers who entered a knife and I hope will can continue the tradition.

Jay

Again, I am sorry this has taken so long. The pictures were taken by someone else and I had a hard time getting them. A few knives were picked up before the pictures were taken, but the one below were the closest contenders and of course, the winner by Larry Page.

Jay

Thanks Jay, that is a fine group. We'll work a little harder next year on getting the word out about the award. This should be a award that every maker would like to win.
