I am starting to get interested in knife making more recently. Maybe its a phase?
Well ive only made one knife, and ill show pictures of it, but im wondering, who would buy this knife? How much would you pay for it? (All of this assuming its good steel, good materials, the works) Im wondering if I have much of a talent for this.

The links are jsut bigger pictures of the knife in my signature.

If it had at least 440C or a good forged blade and based on the photo, I would probably ball park it at $150.

what materials did you use?

blade steel, bolsters, hilt? what type of edge, grind? thickness? overall length, blade length? heat treat?

is this made from a kit? or hand ground by you?

Hand ground by me from a steel blank
I made it at a japanese knife shop, so unfortunately i dont know the steel, i jsut know its stainless. It cost me $200 (for the training and the knife itself)
It was heat treated then put in some freezer thingy. My japanese language skills arent technical to know the specifics of his heat treat.
Handle is antler and brass.
It has a v grind
Thickness... not real thick, maybe about the thickness of a spyderco endura. Of course if i made knives often i would make various thickneses. The ruler in the picture is to show length.
It feels heavy for its size, despite not being extremely thick, but it is balanced.

I think the $150-ish estimate is reasonable. That's assuming the following: New/unknown maker, average steel, good fit and finish, interesting and useful design.

Good Luck,

I'm new to the boards but because of that I may be the most un-biased. I just bought a knife from a maker I'd never heard of, and found almost nothing about on the net.
Knife is a drop point. ATS34, Rc at about 60, stag handle, tooled leather sheath.
I payed $135. Maker is Cliff Manley. Not knowing much I thought it was worth the chance.

This is my first purchase of a non - prod knife. How'd I do?

Oh, and to address your Q. If it was in a quality steel, and thick enough, I'd not be afraid to hit the $150 mark. I use Bark River K & T as a benchmark. I think a custom knife should have a better fit, and features not available at production levels. BR offers a good knife for the money.

I would go up to 200$, i like the design, the handle looks great and it's custom made. All in all it's a very cool knife.
