Who would like to make something a little different?

I would like to get something made, a knife, but not your normal knife. An experienced knife maker should not have much difficulty with it and it doesn't require any exotic materials.

What I'm after is a custom made hoof knife. For those who are unfamiliar with these things it's a farriers tool used for trimming horses hooves.

If you would be interested in talking about this, let me know. BTW, I'd rather this go to somebody who can do it more or less right away, I don't wish to be on a 2 year waiting list or suchlike. (Yes, I'm an impatient bastard. :) )

Anyway, if you're interested and can do something fairly soon, let me know. I can give you all the details you need if/when we start talking about it.

I know a guy who could make such a knife, he's an active farrier, blacksmith, and bladesmith. What price range are you looking at, and what do you want? I can talk to him, give him your details, and if he's interested, he can contact you.

I'm not interested in this commission, but have made a set.
The problem with a custom hoof knife is that a cheap one works just as good ( or better) than most hand made ones. They are generally of good quality, and easily procured for less than $10. That makes it nearly impossible to market a hand made hoof knife as superior....or even worthwhile.....and surely not cost effective.

Another direction to go is to get a commercial blade and put a custom handle on it ( which I have done, too). This allows some style in the wood, and keeps the cost lower.
Ebay always has German made hoof blades for around $5-6 each.

The only reason I made the forged ones I did was to make a set ( left and right) as a gift.
They probably were never used.
