A little much for EDC for me - big blade for a 3" knife.

Got a new Sirus of Ebay - took 1 day to get - nice knife - really fast assist, acts like an auto if you ask me.

A definite Sheeple freaker - brought it into work and sold it to the second guy that looked at it (small profit).

Have a Camillus Heat on the way, hoping that one is a little more subdued for EDC.

The Sog Twitch II is a ok little knife, might try the XL (II is too small for my hand)

Which of the BM axis locks are <3"? I think the Mini Grip is one - don't like the handle though.

Anyone know the blade size on a BM 780? (one on ebay looks pretty cool)

If you think the Sirius opens fast, the Heat will be at least as bad, and it's a lot bigger, too. Good thing the grip is textured, or my Heat might flip outta my hand when I open it! There are a couple of other models like the Heat (3.65" blade) but smaller: the Sizzle (2.5" blade) and Blaze (3.0"). You might try one of those.

As for Benchmades with 3" blades and Axis locks... the Mini Griptilian, Opportunist, Sequel and the discontinued 705 fit the bill, at 3" or just under; the 960 Osborne is a helluva little knife, with a 3.12" blade, and the discontinued 720 and 722 measure 3.25", if you're willing to go over a tad; the Mini Ambush, Mini Pika and Monochrome have 3" blades, but not Axis locks.

As for the 780, prepare to pay big: check and see what they've been selling for, generally $265-$300!

*cough* RIPOFF! *cough*
Alot of people must be desperate to pay out like that- They appear to be available new online for $111-$160-ish

So, go ahead and buy a few, and turn a nice profit on ebay!!

If you click any of those links you found on Froogle, you'll see that they're all listed as "Out of Stock" or "Discontinued". Those $111-160 prices were what they *would have* sold for, if they were actually available.

Short version of the story...

Benchmade designed the knife, announced it to the world, started manufacturing, and began offering it to resellers. Resellers started listing the knife, even took pre-orders. Benchmade discovered that the design required manufacturing tolerances that were nearly impossible to accomplish in mass-production, and killed the production run after just a couple hundred knives are made. These few went to a few lucky distributors, and out into the wide world. Because of their scarcity, they became instant collectibles, hence the obscene prices we see now.

To quote what I said to the last guy who asked a similar question:

My choice for a nice sub 3" (2.95") knife just a week or so ago was the benchmade 705-401.

I got mine for $87 plus shipping/handling/tax (I live in california) on ebay where duane seems to be selling them once a week or so, in either of the stores that's selling them (edcknives.com or americanheritagesports.com), they're $110.

You could also look at the BM 707.

I like the knife quite a bit, and love the axis locking system (one of the big reasons most of my knives have been benchmades).
