The little white mail truck made my weekend.

It arrived Saturday morning with a Spyderco "Military" carbon fiber handled 4" wonder.

After testing it out this weekend around the yard I must say I'm very pleased. It is big but light (blame that lightness on the carbon fiber handle) and feels great in the hand. I used it for pruning spring sprigs on the bushes around the house. Absolutely no dulling of the s30v blade after many hours of cutting.

The liner lock is about the best I have ever used. It is very well made and extremely smooth.

What a little beauty! It is worth every penny, IMHO, and every bit the equal to the more expensive Striders and Sebbies.

Heres a picture.

Here is a review in British Blades Forum that might be of interest. It compares the Spyderco "Manix" model against the much more expensive knives. Since this "Military" model is about the same 4" size and a stablemate to the Manix I imagine the same comments apply to it as well. The big difference between the "Manix" and the "Military" in my opinion is the better liner lock of the Military compared to the back-lock of the Manix although both are very reliable.

Any other recent CF Military owners thoughts?

I love my military I carry it every day, along side my DDR GH. It holds its edge very well and the g10 provides a solid grip. I got it from a member here who had tritium put in the backspacer so that makes it even cooler. I have gotten used to the size of it and would not switch back. Its been a great knife and I didnt understand teh hype until I owned one myself:cool: .

Why do you say the liner lock is better?

Ritt-

Famous knife author Bernard Levine, the guy who writes the knife value publications, did a test to destruction of various locks and the liner lock failed last and only in the open position as I recall.

In my personal opinion the liner lock is a smoother feeling locking mechanism than the lock back. I find it easier to release one handed also.

Here is a link to the article. Also if you have a chance read Bob Terzoula's book on making tactical knives. He goes into great depth about the advantages of the liner lock over the lock-back. Of course there are some newer locks that are probably better than both as far as strength and dependability.

I'm not bashing any lock, as much depends on who makes it as the type of lock. I wish I could show you this knife and let you see and feel it's lockup.

Thanks DDG, for one of the most well-informed and clearly stated opinions I've seen on these forums lately.

I know what you mean about the lock-up on the Military. I had a CF, sold it, but I've still got my old reliable G-10. Same solid feel.
