Got my first multi-tool. SOG B66. What a tool! I was testing out the plier/cutter strength (and am very impressed) when I found a nail. I cut the nail. It was easy. It also nicked the wire cutters in the process.

Now, I'm just sitting here feeling like an idiot with my brand new B66 and a noticeable nick in it.

Three questions:
  1. How can I smooth out the nick so that it doesn't intervene with the closing/opening of the tool?
  2. Can they be sharpened without paying the $12 + shipping back to SOG?
  3. Unrelated: Can the wire-striper accessory be purchased anywhere other than SOG's website? $13 seems a bit excessive to me....

I have auto mechanic's tools at home but not much in the way of knife/metal sharpening. I am, however, a student at an engineering school with many mechanical engineering friends so I may be able to get access to tools/shops around campus.

Thanks for the help,
David

I would try a very small file, or a block and some fine wet/dry sandpaper. just try to avoid taking material off between the blades, if that makes sense. as for the stripper, I think only SOG sells them, but really, its not that much.

Did the same thing to a Gerber Multitool, I feel your pain. I smoothed out the nick with a small diamond file and wet/dry sand paper glued to a little stick.

Check with your friends who have access to a machine shop, they may be able to help you out and take the nick out. They may have some small stones that are made to be used like a file.

Let us know how you take the nick out.

What kind of "nick" are we talking about? Did it chip or just deform? If it deformed it's possible to steel it back to shape.
