Well, I just wanted to let everyone know of my second good knife cut ever.

The first was from total misuse of a knife. I was trying to pry open a beer cap when the spine of the blade slipped out from under the cap and I sliced into the meat of my thumb.

This time, I was reprofiling my crawford/kasper folder using the Lansky guide and the extra coarse stone. I was taking what amounts to about a 20-25 degree per side edge down to 17 degrees per side. Obviously that means a lot of material has to be removed. I was working the tip when basically, I missed. Took about a 3/8" square slice out of my ring finger knuckle. No pics since I didn't want to bleed all over the bedroom and I just got up and got a band-aid.

No lock failures yet!

Knives aren't for prying, wedging, hammering, beer cap removal, or anything else not related to slicing or otherwise doing cutting tasks. Let this be a lesson to you!

To quote my high school shop teacher (who was amazing with tools and surprisingly wise): "Pain is a good teacher." I assume you have learned your lesson? :)

Brian.

HA, that was the last time I tried to get a cap off a bottle with a knife. Now I have a keychain bottle opener.

This time, it was just a slip off a narrow stone. I wish the lansky system included some kind of guard. Maybe I'll look for a heavy glove or something.
