my new camillus arclite says "a.g.russel" on one side.

but on the other it says "darrel ralph" who is the actual designer, right?

another stupid question: what does the d-2 60 rc. mean. it's on the same side as the "a.g.russel" print.

thanks for any help.

A.G. is a knife dealer http://www.agrussell.com/ The knife was a collaboration between Ralph and Camillus.
The D2 is the steel (an excellant one!) it's made from, and the 60 rc is the Rockwell hardness rating.

This knife in D2 was an exclusive offering thru A.G. Russell.

You got yourself a good one.

A.G. Russell is the founder of the company that bears his name (see www.agrussell.com). He's an icon in the industry and I certainly have no business writing his biography. You can find plenty of info on the site. It's definitely worth getting on their mailing list as the catalog is top-notch with great photos and and their customer service excellent.

The Camillus EDC is a DDR design based on his custom of the same name. D2 is the blade steel and that version was an exclusive of Russell's.

edit:
dullone was quicker than me, sorry for the duplicate info

thanks dullone.

i actually just did find that out (guess i asked too soon)

funny thing is, i got this form knifeworks.com, not agrussell.com.

check the details out though. i paid $19.99 for a reg. arclite at knifeworks.com... but i got a d2 a.g. russell... look at what they go for: (straight from agrussell.com)
Camillus® Arclite Neck Knife - Plain Edge with D2 Steel
The shape is the same, the grip is the same and the weight is the same, but this is not the same CUDA® Arclite. This A. G. Russell™ Exclusive Arclite is made of D2 at 60 Rc, instead of 420. D2 will take a razor edge and will hold that edge better than any other steel commonly used today. Made in the U.S. of 3/32" stock, the blade measures 3-1/4" and the overall length is 6-3/4". Ships with a Kydex® sheath with a bead chain which allows it to be carried in a pocket or around the neck. Weighs 3.0 oz.

CA-CU1202: $ 49.95

i'm really happy now! :)

agrussell is an excellent knife dealer and often has special issues. I have the knife in question, while I would never buy a blade of 420,D2 is really nice. The newest Camillus/Russell is the Dominator but a non assisted version.I didn't understand why a folder has to be 'assisted'.

Great deal.

Makes you wonder how a supposedly AGR exclusive wandered over to knifeworks.com. In the past, AGR has never been a bargain store, so their exclusives were pretty well price protected.

I called Bayou Laforche Knifeworks and found that you got a one-of-a-kind deal. Apparently the knife you got came from a distributor that Knifeworks uses by a rare accident and Knifeworks does not have stock with D2 sitting on their shelves. Due to a change in Camillus' distribution plans Arclites won't even be going through distributors in the future. It sounds like Camillus is going to deal direct with storefronts (at least on this model) in the future which will cut out most internet sources.

jcrim007,
Congrats! You got a great deal! That knife is an AG RUSSELL exclusive,a nd was appearently accidently dropped in the wrong box when it was shipped to Roger @ Knifeworks.com

I just got off the phone with Roger, and no, he does not have any D2 Arclite's in stock. We checked all the boxes:rolleyes:

Jeff,
When you called Roger he must not have had enough coffee yet, as he thought you were refering to ARC-Lights, flashlights. They are changing their distribution, NOT CAMILLUS. CAMILLUS KNIVES is still doing business the same way with our same accounts.....especially our internet accounts.

Thanks for being a customer....and an especially lucky customer at that!

I am glad to be corrected about the Arclite distribution arrangement. Thanks for catching my error Will.

I have one of the AG Russell special Camillus EDC's with D2 blade. It is a favorite.

AG Russell is a great guy and provides some great deals on knives with premium alloy blades. I also have one of his Deer Hunter models with D2 blade.

I work there and cannot get a D2 arclite that cheap! Lucky sumgun!
We have done and I am more than sure will continue to do collabs with Camillus. I think you will enjoy the knife, D2 is some awesome stuff.

I have a few of these myself. The knife is designed by darrel ralph. The knife is made by camillus. The model arclite in question was commissioned by ag russel in D2 (D2 is a very hard tool steel).
