See you there (on time),
Chris

Looks like I'm going to miss this one. I'm in Portland, ME on business and won't be flying back to Charleston until Saturday afternoon. Don't talk too bad about me

. FWIW, i understand that Winston Salem has a local ordnance banning autos.

Dave - if you see Tim L. there, remind him not to sell the Daltons he's holding for me. Also, tell him I told you to wish him a happy 40th birthday.

David, i am coming down to the Charlotte Show the second week in August with a couple of friends. Hope to see you and the othere NCKnife Nuts there!

Dave, Can you give me the information on the Winston Salem show? I thought that show was later on in September? Thanks!

Narruc1 - David's talking about the local gun/knife/stun gun/blowgun/hotsauce/jerky show that comes around here every few months. The September show you speak of is the S.E. Custom Knife Show. Info about the show can be found here: http://www.ncknifeguild.org/NCShow.htm . See you then.

The show sucked eggs big time! The only knife purveyors were F+W and confederate. No Boas. No custom guys. Tim Langston wasn't there.
The knife knuts lunch, however, was classic!Dexter, myself, Chris and Kelly made it. we sat at this sub shop for about 3 hours and did the display thing. Mark, You and your camera skills were sorely missed. Chris took a trainload of good natured chiding on a number of topics. Thank goodness he has a great sense of humor and easygoing nature. We pretty much drove the nails in
wink.gif

Got a lot of looks when the Combat Smatchet got waved around a bit. That thing could double as a frying pan if needed. In short, it was a good time. As usual, the best knife booth of the show was the Table we ate lunch at! Only a couple of weeks til the Charlotte show.

The Winston show is pretty much unpredictable in terms of knife dealers. One show will have a good selection of dealers, and the next show a few months down the road will suck, like this one did. Though, the November - December shows are pretty good with exhibitors stocking up for the shopping season. The Charlotte ones are pretty consistent. All I need to visit is Tim Langston and I'm pretty much a happy camper

"Drove the nails in"? DOH!! NOT gonna go there, David

You guys make small round parts of my body ache, wish I could be there, sounds like a really good time even with the bad show!

We don't have much like that around up here, Lewisburg PA is about the closest thing and thats once a year in the spring.

The next best thing, and it is pretty cool I must say, is the Ashokan Seminar in Sept...This year it's called Sword 2000 and is all about swords, can't wait, it's three days in the woods with nothing but knife knuts, bunk house arrangement, (bring earplugs as it's pretty loud at night!), food is provided as well. Dan Maragni is heading it up, Tim Zowada flys in also and Paul Champagne will be there as will other knife makers.
Read more about it here:

http://www.vikingsword.com/sword2k/index.html

It's near Kingston NY just below the Ashokan Resevoir...

I assume you guys know about the NC Arms Collectors' show next weekend at the Charlotte Merchandise Mart. I've never been to that one, and am thinking about attending. Tim told me that it was pretty big and that he would be going.

The following weekend is the SC Arms Collectors'show at the Jamil Temple in Columbia, SC. Tim & Don and Confederate Cutlery are usually the only two big knife dealers there though. The good thing is that its only a 90 minute one way trip for me.

Dexter - I agree. Tim is most always holding something for me, so I know I'll have new toys if he's there.

Ooooohhhhh, someone is in the process of hiring a private detective to dig up some dirt on Dex, David, and I'm sure soon to include Kelly! What, no quick wit from Mr. Yates? I'm sure he's busy with the scanner and photoshop - don't go there!

BTW the knife show did suck! I still like my CRKT Crawford Kasper, though.

Dex, David - make sure you close the blinds at night

Oh, almost forgot, I beat David and Kelly to the show

Take care,

Kelly, you just made tha Magnum P.I. list! The next Charlotte show is in January, right? I mean, I can wear Gore-tex gloves, right?

All kiding aside, Chris is as good a sport as there is. It was great seeing you again. Yes, the show sucked. The lunch was great as always. We can't help but have a blast, huh?

The CRKT Crawford KFF I bought has undergone some dramatic changes. I took it apart and gave the blade, liners, backspacer, and clip a 600 grit hand rubbed finish. I was very suprised that the bead blasting wasn't covering up some serious grinding marks. CRKT obviously finishes the knife nicely before bead blasting the blade. I did a spine whack test without using the LAWKS safety. It passed with flying colors. The action is as smooth as any factory knife I've ever owned. There is no hint of blade play in any direction. The liner doesn't move on the tang when pressure is applied to the blade spine. Aside from the fit of the backspacer, and the poor choice of steel (IMHO), this knife is an incredible value at the $39 we paid. It's a seriously heavy-duty piece.

Kelly,

Good seeing the crew again as well. I agree with the KFF. The fit and finish on mine equals or exceeds that of much higher priced factory knives (gee, I'd LOVE to name some, but I don't want to start a flame war - Emerson Knives, REKAT). If CRKT would use ATS-34, BG-42 or a CPM blade steel, titanium liners, and CF or G10 for the handles, I'd pay the 150.00 that some of these production companies (Emerson Knives, REKAT) are getting for their knives. The quality is incredible for 39 bucks out the door. Gee, am I on a rant. See what you guys brought me to!

Flame on,
Chris
