So who's going to the BAKCA show this year (Aug 16-17, Hyatt Rickeys Palo Alto, CA)? Looking at the list of table holders, I see alot of familiar names. I'm looking forward to seeing alot of wonderful knives and hopefully purchasing a few to add to my miniscule collection.

Feel free to say hi. I'll be the asian dude in jeans and this T-shirt, looking very dazed, this being my first knife show. I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow knife knuts in meatspace.

Should I expect a knife check at the door? :p

Looking forward to meeting you.I'll be the fat white guy,big belly, grey hair, with the "Cream and Black" Koi shirt on.Cannot miss me.:D :D

I'll look for that shirt too.. Will be there Saturday, probably early. Don't end up staying much past lunch cause I usually spend all my money by then :)

I'm going to try to be there early Saturday also. I'd like to see all the stuff before it gets sold :). Any etiquette tips?

I'll be there Sat before 10AM looking stupid as always...

Etiquette tip: do not practice martial arts movements with large knives or swords in the aisle. Go outside if you must cut someones head off :)

More serious notes for first time show goers:

1. Always ask before touching
2. Do not forcefully flip knives
3. Keep your fingerprints off the blade
4. Do not run thumbs or fingers over edges to test sharpness unless you carry bandaids and are prepared to look like a bloody fool
5. Be very polite and say thank-you after admiring makers wares
6. Do not ask for a lower price from custom makers. Many consider it very poor behavior. If the knife is not worth what they are asking, say thank-you and walk away. Towards the end of the show that approach may get you a lower price.

The web page says that the show opens at 10. Can members get in early? Do members pay a door fee? Thanks!

It's open to members at 9:00. That aced me outta any chance at Tom Mayo's work last year!

A couple years ago a dotcom went out of business owing me a fair chunk of change .

I wrote it off as a lesson learned and forgot about it. Now, the day before the BAKCA show, I get a check in the mail from my portion of the settlement. It isn't even close to the full amount (~10%), but then again, I wasn't expecting anything. Talk about timing! :D :D :D

Edited to change BAKCA to BAKCA show.
