Who's got a SpydeRench?

For a while I carried around my Vicotrinox Swiss Tool but as of late I no longer have any belt space :D My belt holds my Gunting, my cell phone, another knife depending on rotation, and pepper spray when I don't want it in my pocket. I'm just a regular Joe, not a cop... I can't have anymore on my belt :D ..... so this is the segway to my interest in the SpydeRench. I no longer have much pocket space either but this is easier to find than belt space. The idea of a multitool that will comfortably carry clipped to my pocket is quite intrigueing. Well, another huge reason is that I've loved every Spydie I've ever purchased and I can never wait to get more :D

My question is: how well does this thing work?
I remember reading a review a while ago that said that the SpydeRench was very high on the 'gadget' factor but wasn't so great for use. I don't expect this thing to work as well as the Swiss Tool just due to the size differences... but will it serve me well for daily remedial tasks?

It probably won't take much to convince me to buy another Spydie but I could always use some posotive reinforcement :D

So who carries a SpydeRench? Who owns one? Whadda ya think?

Hi!
I own one. I carry a starmate.
I like the spydie-wrench,but I didn't use it so far.
Maybe that's why I'm a collector. :)
In my opinion every spydernut should own one.
hope this helps.

I have been carrying the Spyderench daily (at work) for the better part of a year, now, and it's replaced a Supertool. The 'rench rides in a belt pouch on my equipment belt (I am a cop). The pliers are slightly less useful due to the chunky jaws when compared with the tapered needle-nose design on some other tools, BUT the one hand deployment of the blade, and adjustable wrench/screwdriver options have been very useful (not avail on my old tool). I've used it many times, from opening boxes to adjusting radar-antenna & laptop computer mounts in vehicles, to removing confiscated license plates from cars. This is a work-horse for me (the one I use for non-emergency cutting).

I carry my Harpy for emergency-use.

I find it a little too complex for my tastes. I don't really like anything you have to separate or that has numerous parts. Too easy to lose when you're in a hurry. It's quality like all things Spyderco and like Red said, it's a "must have" if you're a Spyder fan.

Hawkbill brought up the two big plusses for me - The clunky pliers jaws are great for tasks that a needlenose just can't get done, like working with larger hex bolts. The use of standard screwdriver bits means that you can load up for what you need most, like torx or other specials. You can tap into your full supply of bits that you have for other tools. Additionally, the ability to seperate the tool, and use the wrench for holding while you are using the screwdriver is a nice feature.

I bought one when they first came out and really haven’t used it too much. As was posted above, the pliers are a little big for small jobs, but to work on something where some real force would be used the spyderwrench would be much better than the Leatherman options.
The best part is that it's got that very cool "toy factor". That alone is worth the $$. I spent quit a few hours just playing with it.
I also liked the ability to open the knife blade with out opening the tool (but to be fair you can get at two different blades on the Leatherman Wave) and that you can totally remove it and use it separate.
I personally keep it in a tool kit in my motorcycle and hopefully will never have to use it for it's now intended purpose.
Just a note: I am mostly a knife guy and have never really carried any multi-tool's as an EDC, so the fact that I don't carry it or use it too much is not unusual. I also have a Leatherman wave that got rotated to my car when I got the spyderwrench and it hasn't seen too much use either.
