Friday afternoon has got me daydreaming of getting out of work and into the hills! I found a great new area to explore recently. It's over 3000 acres of open space, and there are a few caves that I spotted. The opening of one looks HUGE, so I'm hoping for some exploring. Anybody have some outdoor plans?

This is from a pretty good distance

Zoomed in as much as I could

That looks like a beeeeeea-utiful place to scramble around/hike/camp!

I *was* hoping to get out and do a review/comparison of/with my new SS "Basecamp" Kelly Kettle to my older, aluminum small "Trekker" kettle. However, its "Mothers Day" on Sunday and with my wifey outta town not due to return 'til Sunday, I'm going to make her a couple new "raised bed gardens" and give the house a thorough cleaning.

I can still do the review/comparison, just from at the house...

Hey, at home bushcrafty stuff is all good by me! And of course, happy wife, happy life so that is definitely most important :D

Took my, what is becoming normal, Friday stroll in the Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest.

Came across this little guy:

So much territory to explore:

Mt Hood in the upper left.

Trillium changing from White, much as Spring changes to Summer:

compared to what you guys have for hiking in my little 3/4 of a mile by about te same is pretty sad compared to what you 2 have to hike in lol. I went out and looked for some mush rooms and nothing. Kelly Girl and I still had a nice time out walking in our neck of the woods today.

that pic you posted of all the trees River 8 is just stunning.

Tknife I hiked that area a few times. You can go into the cave and then climb out on top of it. When you get to the top keep climbing up the hill. Then go right on the ridge of the hills to the end. The view is great. then you can bushwack down the hill to the starting point or turn around and follow the edge of the hill in a big circle to the main trail turn left and back to the trail head... take lots of water as there is no shade. Have fun

River-8 ... cute little guy you caught with the camera there, and a beautiful area for a regular stroll. Lucky to have all this so close. The trilliums are just out in abundance here. They are the provincial flower of Ontario. Along with them come the blackflies - do you get these little biters? Your season is well advanced by comparison. Overnight here the temp was at an unusual low of a little over 35 degrees F and I just had to cover the new plantings outside as some light snow was falling! Quite unseasonably cold for May 12.

tknife ... looking forward to viewing your pics, but my computer is taking issue with some images just now.

Thanks Sasha, you're right! The big cave was even better than I thought it would be, pics to come...

Nice pics, looks like a great day for a stroll in the woods.
I didn't get out into the woods but I did go kayaking this weekend.

Gorgeous pics. I have been fiddling around out there for a month now. It was a very late spring this year. I just came in today and found my first tick on me. I was experimenting with trying to ignite hard coal with magnesium shavings. After several repeated attempts it was a no go. The coal was so hot that I could barely handle it, but nothing......
