This topic came up when I was taling to Alan Folts about a set of Kits he is making up for me. I wanted to know if he'd mark them with his name, mostly so it would not make me feel like I am taking all the credit for the knives. I know that alot of people were taking Kit knives from Big makers and finishing them and selling them as their own, which seems a little unethical in my book. I also know that If I were to Botch up one of the kits, or do ha half-assed job on it, that Alan would not like to see his name on it, which is why he declined to mark them( I can understand that).

Should I just finish them and leave them blank, or put my mark on them but let everyone know that Alan did the grinding? For personal use I guess it does not matter, but if I were to re-sell a few, how should one deal with it?

On a side note, there is a guy up here that says he makes the kits that he sells, but he doesn't seem to notice the little "Solingen, Germany" mark that is stamped into the tangs. My guess is that all he does is buff up the blades and resells them.

It is not a matter of whether or not you are paranoid, it is a matter of whether or not you are paranoid enough.

I've though long and hard about the same thing myself, i've decided not to sell any "kit-blades" so i keep working on my flat grinds. Thats how i live with myself. DK

Pretty nice,huh?

When I had a few kit knives made by Madpoet, I wanted his maker's mark on the blades. I think some knifemakers are apprehensive to put their mark on a knife that is not their product 100%, which is understandable, as their mark signifies their work. What Mel did was a big surprise, and here is a picture:
