I was tooling around the collection a few weeks back and started comparing chisel grinds. I recently got a Phill Hartsfield 'Strong Boy" and wanted to see how it stood up to an Emerson, specifically my CF-1 Vindicator. I also wanted to see how the Hartsfield compared to a Rhino, since it is the sharpest folder I have, by far.
I won't get into the specifics, but I used paper, then cardboard, then leather strips. The Rhino cut through everything like buttaaaa! The Vindicator was no sloutch either, but had a harder time. The surprise was the Hartsfield. The blade is 1/4" thick, so I was not expecting much. But to my surprise, it cut everything the best and smoothest. My tests weren't scientific, but I am guessing it is due to the angle that the grind was placed on the blade. But anyhow, here are some pics of just the knives. Sorry, no pics of the test, batteries in the camera were bad at the time. Mr. E should consider making a limited edition Japanese style knife.
I wish I had ordered a knife from Mr. Hartsfield before he passed. He made some great ones!
