Ever since I was little I've been a big fan of laying out under the stars. I mean, what's not to love? There's just something so peaceful about staring into the abyss that is an infinite amount of emptiness, dust and gas. WELL, there is a bunch of hubbub all over the internet and all around about a pretty spectacular meteor shower that is supposed to happen tonight. On all of the websites that I have read through, everything says that the United States and southern Canada will be positioned fairly ideally to witness this shower. The meteor shower is supposed to peek in activity around midnight PST. From what I've read, this could be a light meteor shower with only a handful of meteors in an hour to thousands. Below is a couple links to websites with information about the meteor shower. Will any of you be joining in the fun of staring up at the sky in the middle of the night?

Funny you say that Lora... not last night ;) but when I get out into the far west of the state it is very flat and very empty... the sky appears HUGE and the air is so clear. I have spent many hours sitting out in a chair in the dark just looking up at the rolling light show. If I lay down it could end badly though, I would probably just wake up out there in the morning among a pile of empty bottles staring awkwardly at the dingo there next to me.....

Tonight is the Camelopardalids Meteor Shower. There are several annual meteor showers.

If in the northern hemisphere, look to the northern sky tonight.

Too cool Lora. Thanks for sharing that. I recently did a painting of the black abyss as viewed through the exit phase of a migraine...

Glad I'm out camping this weekend! I'll be keeping a head up thanks for the info =)

May a $1,000,000 meteorite land in your yard tonight. :D I love how some have hit cars and houses and the people walk away with more $ than the damage. My luck I would get hit on the head though.

It's always that way in Texas. Gene Autry knows it. C'mon and sing with me now....

Isn't there supposed to be a series of claps...
"The stars at night, are big and bright...clap clap clap clap Deep in the heart of Texas"
At least, that's always how I've known it to be. :D

You got it sista!

The problem with clapping is that you can't do it while drinking. Which is why the "one handed knee-clap" was invented.

Stopped by the beach on the way home from the grocery store around Midnight. Remarkably clear night, looked for the big show. Nothing. :grumpy:

It's ok, seen enough shooting stars and fireworks already, benefits of being old.

I crashed early last night, the result of 3 consecutive 12 hr night shifts. :grumpy:

I was hoping for more than I saw. The sky was so clear and with the moon in its waning crescent phase, it was so dark. The stars were so bright. I laid out in the bed of my truck and stared into the northern night sky in hopes of seeing a whole lot of meteors. I did see a nice handful of them, but not what I had expected. I think I had my hopes too high. When I finally decided to go inside and call it a night, I looked elsewhere and noticed how brightly the Milky Way was illuminated in the sky. It was absolutely stunning. Even though I didn't get to see as many meteors as I was hoping, I was excited about how bright the stars were. :)
