Who's using the Tops Shango these days?

I traded for one on the Exchange and I'm wondering what you all think of it, now that it's been out there for awhile and the honeymoon phase is passed.

I love it but think the sheath retention could be a little more snug and the stock edge angle was a little thick. Thin it out and heat/repress the sheath and you're golden

The Shango is the schnitzel...I enjoy it much better than the Izula or the baby beckers...low weight, holds and edge, plenty comfy ergos and it has a fire pooper...best small knife for the bush...

I've heard this about every tops knife out there. The one sample I have from them suffers from being too thick too. (Ecohawk) I'll keep my Izula II. ;)

I love my Izula too (not Izula 2!:p) but the Shango is well worth the money. You just have to be prepared to thin it out and tighten the sheath. :)

Well, I think it will be a good playmate for my golok. If I decide it's not for me, I'm sure I can trade it off.

The awesome thing being they're both from the same designer. :D

Not that I know of (though the new Shango XL has scales). It's plenty comfy for me with a simple paracord wrap through the long handle cutout. :)

I got the Shango today. It is comfortable enough with a cord wrap, but I would'nt mind dressing it up a bit with real scales. If I can get some cool material and hardware it may be a fun DYI project.

I had better wait to hear that the other guy is happy with the trade before I start messing with it though!

I will be curious to see how your handle scales work out. I was part of a passaround with a Shango which I liked. I added a cord wrap. At first (before I watched the "how to video") I struck out with the ferro rod striker on the butt of the knife. After watching the video I had success.

I am also interested in the new larger version!

Scales on the Shango?

The Shango XL just came out, with a much more acute flat grind for better wood working and sharpening

Derpy Joe face is derpy. :D Seriously, though, I'm pretty excited about the XL! I'm absolutely in love with my original model. I thinned out the edge on the HF 1x30 and it's a heck of a slicer now!

No edge thinning on this new one.

Thanks for the visual Joe. Is the blackening on the scales from firesteel striking with the super dooper scraper feature?
