Whose knife was this (GEC 66 rotten banana bone jack)?

I am the current owner of this knife, but it has been through more than 2 previous bladeforum members. I bought this knife after I saw it had been listed in the exchange. I can't tell you folks how much I like this knife (bottom knife in this pic). I'd like to canonize its history, but I don't remember who all the previous owners were.

If you've previously owned this knife, please post here a photo of it while you owned it (if such is available) and who you bought it from. You fellows that owned it before are sure to recognize it :)

I know I have seen that one before and for some reason the name Mink comes to mind. Could be totally wrong on that as well though. That was my grail knife and it took me a couple years to find one! I bought mine from AKC on the forum. My mark side doesn't look quite as good as yours but the pile side is very nice. I really need to get some new pictures of mine as well as all the ones I have do not do it justice at all. Your picture looks fantastic Ed J!

I got this from Peter (Pjake). Here's his picture of it:

Today, I just couldn't leaf this one out of my pocket....

Sturzi, thanks for that photo. The links were broken on the posts I found, but I was thinking he owned this knife before Peter. I think lambertiana owned this knife. I'm not sure if willgoy ever did own it. Maybe he'll see the thread and chime in.

I always think of Doug Add when I see Rotten Banana :)

Thanks guys for the photos and info. I'm going to PM lambertiana and see if he was the original owner (from factory or dealer). I'm also going to PM willgoy about it since the post I found where lambertiana posted the picture made me think when I saw it that William had owned it. But, that is getting pretty close to the original owner I think.

Please post anything you have regarding this particular knife that has not been listed above if you know anything more. I appreciate you folks help with this project. It is one of my favorite knives and I knew it had a history here that I wanted to keep.

It's pretty great seeing how many hands this knife has passed through and how it has aged along the way.:thumbup: +1

This is what it looks like today. The lighting is perfect for photos outside today and the patina on the blade shows up much more so than is visible to my unaided eye. I should clean it after the day is done.

I looks like I'm the fourth owner of the knife, which all are/were members of Bladeforums. I remember seeing this particular knife and really liking the bone and then Andi kept showing that jiggged green bone version and got me to wanting a 66 jack and when Peter posted it in the exchange, I thought I'd see if he'd sell it to me even though the sale thread said "withdrawn" on this knife. He offered to sell it to me and that's how I came about ownership of this sweet knife.

Thanks guys for your input. I hope you enjoyed seeing the photos and reminiscing about this particular GEC jack knife. I cherish the fact that some of my BF friends and acquaintances here have also had their hands on this knife.

Hello Ed, Glad you're putting this one through it's paces!! Yes, I sold it to you after I had purchased it from Doug Add. I do believe that lambertiana was the original owner. Great knife!! I love the #66 pattern.

Nice thread Ed, and it's good to learn the history behind your knife

Good to see you posting in this thread, Peter. I pulled it out to carry it today and the thought for the thread hit me and the rest you see above.

I have one other 66 jack that I put up on the exchange, a burnt stag model. It's too nice a knife for me; I love good stag, but I seem to have a lot of trouble putting one in the pocket for fear of breaking a cover. I'm not sure why that is. I have a couple of stag covered Case knives that I don't seem to have that issue with, but the stag is not as nice as GEC's stag. Maybe that's it; I don't know.

Jack Black, I have a couple other knives that have been through other's hands that I have no way of figuring out the history. For instance, I have a nice, used Gerber Silver Knight that has a personalization added to the blade. Just "happy father's day Dad". It seems that the sons or daughters would have liked to have kept it. I've got several other knives that BF members here have given me or I won in a give away that are special to me for that reason. Anyway, this knife (the 66 jack) brought out the "sentimental' in me and I knew you folks here could help me.

Me to Jack, he was a great member and I wish he'd return to the Porch:thumbup:

I agree! I miss Doug. It would be interesting to see how many of the Rotten Banana Jacks we could capture here. There are only 25 of 'em. The other classic #66 is the green one like Andi's and Jack's. Had one of those that I got in a trade with Paul, but it too has moved on......(wish I had that one back). Now I carry this one fairly regularly
