Whose thread is it anyway?

Who among you will open a thread based on the person who started it.

Ya gotta admit that there are certain names that just make you wanna look, Cliff Stamp,Dave H., to name just 2.

I'm just curios to see how many will open a thread based on name alone.

Interesting question, though probably should be moved to community. :p

I almost never open any thread threads that say "Help me pick..", "Looking for best ...", "What's in your pockets..."...

I put it here because this is where most traffic starts, if the Mods think it should be moved, please move it, I just don't think it'll get the same results. I'll have to add some knife content than.

Here's a pic of my 2 Berettas

Not me, I have a really bad memory for names, no I mean REALLY bad  :D
I'm a lot more apt to recognise a person by their avator, but then again I can't see that until I open the thread ;)

I do not open threads just because they have been started by certain members unless the topic is of interest to me. Some members tend to start topics that interest me more than most, so I will tend to open more of their threads.

Yes, some people seem to always have something good and interesting to say.

After your last couple of threads I may take you off the list :D .

Edited for spelling.

Not me. I think of everyone on here pretty much the same and don't treat anyone differently based on their name or reputation or number of posts.

I've chit-chatted with people only to find out later that they're somewhat famous. It doesn't really make much difference to me.

I do see a lot of brown-nosing on this forum though.;)

I'm more drawn by certain key words in the subject than I am the name of the thread starter.

I usually open things based solely on whether or not the topic sounds interesting, or (as was the case in your other thread), if I'm just plain curious. I will however ignore statements and/or posts from certain people if they have a habit of being wrong or misinformed, or just plain stupid (so I'd be ignoring me if I wasn't forced to read what I typed myself  :p ).

I often don't even notice who started the thread I might be reading. I look at the subject line and go from there. If I'm fairly busy I'll only log onto BF for a very brief period of time, check any threads I might have replied to, then look for any really interesting looking subject lines and then log off. If I have plenty of time I'll go through the various forums check all the threads starting at the most interesting looking ones and then work my way down the interest scale until I get bored and log off.

Put me down as another one who opens a thread based on the topic.

Therefore, I NEVER open threads with ambiguous, go-nowhere titles like the ones below:

"Guess what?"

"What do you think about..." (and that's it, you have to open the thread to find out what)

"What should I do?"

"Lucky Me!!!" (or the variations "Yippee!!!" or "Yay!!!")

There's too great of a potential for stuff like this to be a waste of your time.

Edited to add: Your title was borderline ambiguous, but it still piqued my curiosity enough to open. Good job!;)

I do that...I also open threads based on the last person to respond...at the other side of the coin, I also decide NOT to read threads based on who posted them.

Gee, that's exactly what I was thinking! ;)

Seriously, I will open any thread that actually gives a hint about the content. IOW, I usually ignore stuff like "Look here!" or similar. I consider thread titles like headlines in a print ad - they should *always* give me some idea of what the story is going to be about.

(and I NEVER open the "What are you carrying today?" threads. There are too many other threads with valuable and interesting knife *information* in them to waste my time with those.)

I don't know about you'se guys, but I'll always open a thread started by Vampire Gerbil. You never quite know what you'll get, but it will always be interesting and/or entertaining.

If I see a thread by Sharp Phil with a strange title like "The mating habits of albino carp," I'll open it in a heartbeat!

Chances are it's an interesting approach to a problem or he's poking some blowhard or troll right in the eye.

Either way, I laugh and learn something.

So, who is famous? Besides me I mean.

Well, since I've never really been into custom knives there are/were a lot of knife makers that people have a lot of respect and are fans of where I'd be talking to them just like anyone else and then notice that they kind of had a following.

Also, I started out not knowing who:

Joe Talmadge
Dexter Ewing (Still not quite sure. Something to do with Benchmade)
Sal Glesser
were.

Mick Strider goes under a different name on here as do other people as well I assume.

Besides, knife people aren't movie stars. They work in a shop and get sweaty.:D It's not that I don't respect their work; it's just that the ones I've met online and in person are down-to-earth regular people. And I don't find myself swooning over their keyboard stokes.;)
