Just wondering everyone's stories of whom you've met, along with when and where, in the knife world in the way of designers and craftsmen.

Roughly six years ago, I met Todd Begg at the church I went to at the time. I really didn't know who he was, but remember seeing a feature article about his knives just a week or two before so I knew enough to compliment him on his appearance in the magazine and for his knives which were well regarded. He shook my hand, told me to come by the shop sometime, but I never did, and now I kick myself.

I also knew Michael Rader when we were younger and did martial arts together, but I've not seen him since and am glad to see his success as a knife designer and bladesmith.

I went to the USN's G6 convention last year in Las Vegas. I was lucky enough to meet Todd Begg, Rick Hinderer, Tony Marfione, Ramon Chavez, Jesse Jaroz, Mick Strider, and Todd Rexford. I also got to have a lengthy conversation with Greg Medford and Ernest Emerson

If you go to the big knife shows, you meet these people if you want to. Most are just normal folks.

Geez. I have met quite a few people over the years at various shows. Duane dwyer, Bob Terzuola, Darrel Ralph, Jeff harkins, Ernest Emerson, Les Voorhies. Plenty of others just cant remember all of them. I was most impressed with Jeff Harkins though. Absolutely the most humble maker I have ever met and the most inviting to check out his stuff even when he knows you cant afford it. Total class act. I met him at the chicago custom knife show about a decade ago.

AG Russell ( at his store)

Bob Dozer and his knife making crew ( at Tulsa gun show)

The Gunny R Lee Ermey (Manning the SOG booth and giving out signatures)

James Crowell (as in the Browning Competition Knife)

AG Russell at his store as well.

Bob Dozier and Daniel Crotss at his shop and at my store.

Tom Krein at his shop

Met Rob Simonich at the Oregon knife show in Eugene. He was a character. Got to laughing at stuff and walked out without one of his knives. Figured what-the-hell, I'll pick one up from him at another show. Never got the chance.

BFC chat used to be lively with makers. Kit Carson, DDR, Tim Herman, Fisk... they were fun folks to chat with. At times I'd be doubled over laughing at my computer by myself, with my wife rolling her eyes and shaking her head in the background. Fun stuff.

Met both Dozier and Bob Terzuola at NYCKS New York Custom Knife Show when it was allowed in NYC. As a matter a fact many of the top makes were there, I was just a noob at the time and it was those two guys who were the standouts for me.
Heck Bob T even invited me to join him for dinner with a bunch of other folks but I was to intimidated to accept.
Yep, just regular people with extraordinary talents!!
