Which one is best depends on the needs of the individual doing the picking.
What does he use it for?
How much is he willing to pay?
Personally, I am interested in a knife for general use doing chores around the house and in the garden.
-one hand opening and pocket clip are very nice to have. They make the knife easy to grab and use.
-Speed of deployment is of no importance to me.
-Assisted open is not a plus.
-Edge retention is a plus.
-The steel has to do more than slice, but a blade shape that slices well is appreciated. Sometimes when I trim material there is some horizontal force involved to the cutting. I don't want a steel or heat treat that can't tolerate that. I do not use a knife as a prybar.
-Has to feel good in my hand. That includes how it grips and how it balances.
-Has to do fine cutting well. I have to have excellent control of the blade. For me that means around a 3" blade, although a 3 1/2" is acceptable.
-Can't cost more than ~$65. Stuff happens to knives. I won't put much more than that much money at risk.
-No tantos. An elegant blade shape is nice, but I don't care for recurves.
-Not fussy about handle material. FRN works just fine.
There's lots of knives that work well that meet my parameters.
Four that immediately spring to mind that I have and enjoy using (listed in alphabetical order, not by preference):
Benchmade Griptilian
Benchmade Monochrome.
KaBar Dozier and Large Dozier
Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Native III
But above all YMMV.
These are my parameters for a knife that meets my needs. Other folks are going to have other needs and uses. So they will likely make other blade choices.
