Why am I not loving my Echelon?

I received my echelon the other day after much anticipation. Opened the package, flipped it open......Ugh. Not too impressed. I LOVE the way it looks and I LOVE the feel of the G10, but it just doesn't feel right when it opens. It doesnt open with the "snap" im used to from my other blades. Is it maybe because the thumb stud is way different than I'm used to? It also doesnt really feel great in my hands. I have huge hands and usually prefer a large knife, which this one is not. But it's not that much smaller than my Blurs and they feel awesome!

Am I doing something wrong?

I agree, I like the look and feel in hand, but something is off with the opening. The action just isn't right. Not sure if it needs a break in period or what, but I haven't been able to put mine in my pocket over my other knives.

From my short experience with the Echelon: feels great in hand, great grip and aesthetics, good steel and handles, but the A/O+thumbstuds are a little awkward.

I really believe if the A/O was removed, it would be easier to use and quicker to adjust to. It just seems to be more of a manual knife to me.

Other than that, I really love the knife.

I agree, AO on the Echelon is awkward. The blade needs a Flipper.

I disagree on the thumb studs and A/O, but I'm not so hot on the Echelon anyway, primarily for looks. It's also not a CF154 Blur, so it just can't be amazing. Only the CF154 Blur can be as amazing as a CF154 Blur. I recommend getting the CF154 Blur.

Really? Do you like the CF154 blur?

Sounds like stick needs the 1670CF154 tattooed on his butt that way naked he'll never be without it, lol.

I own two echelons and both open with a solid thunk - it takes a strong thumbnail pressure - mostly left angled flick on that thumbstud to deploy but once you hit it, it slams open. I can see how folks with large thumbs would have trouble though - you have to jam your fingernail/thumb in between the g10 and the thumstud to get the ideal leverage. Now that I have had mine for a bit - they open really nicely - at first - it was really tough (my thumb hurt!)

Anyhow- is it any better now after a few months?

I have an Echelon that I love (dyed purple by the way.... an idea I got from this forum  ). I do consider it to be more of a "fancy" knife rather than some of my more heavy duty ones. The easiest way for me to open it is by using the base of my thumb and pushing upward like a blur. You kind of need a hitch hikers thumb to make it work though. Maybe this picture will help. It's obviously not my awesome purple one, but it was the only one I could find in the office right now.

Just a suggestion, there are other opening methods too.
