I an curious, I am looking to buy a surefire for a EDC. I see by the forums that most of you seem to lean toward the E2E HA. OK I understand the HA part but why not a 6P, C2 or D2. They would seem to be more versatile in that they can take the P61 lamp. Are they really that much bigger?

thanks

kamkazmoto, I know what your talking. Personally I prefer M2 for 2 cell surefire. But E2e IS the more popular one out there. I think
it has enough reasons to be that big. It's compact. Most of the pix on line don't do justice to its real size.It could be much smaller than you thought. It's in HA III. It looks cute. It goes with KL1. It takes care of almost all your daily uses. I have an E1e which is so cute. I'm gonna get an KL1 for it.

The larger two-cells are just slightly too big for pocket carry. My rule is this: If people have to ask what that bulge in your pocket is, it's too big.

The E2 (and E2e) are just *slightly* thicker in the body than a 2AA Mini-Maglite. The head is pretty much the same size. The total length is about one inch shorter, making the light truly pocketable (you won't jab yourself when sitting down).

Here's a comparison chart on the Surefire website:

At TheLightSite there's a picture comparison of a several Maglites, Surefires, and Arcs:

Alpha,

I'm sitting here looking at my minimag and at the surefire web site and thinking the thing is only .25" wider at the bezel and .6" longer; how much bigger can the d2 really be than the E2e. Then I went to the Lightsite site that you posted for me and the light (bad pun) finally went on. It really is smaller.

Thanks everyone. Think I am going to try a E2e HA first. If I need more light than that well, my birthday is in Feb. :D

More light then an E2e on your Birthday?
Just how many candles are you expecting on your cake?

Al :D

Not only is an E2E basically smaller than a Mini Mag, but mine with the stock bulb is brighter and has a clearer light source than my six D cell (yes that's 6 D cell) Mag Light, but it fit's in my pocket! (try that with a six d cell Mag)

I love my E2 HA so much that I bought it a KL1 for Christmas. To keep it company I bought an E2E SG to go along with it.

I did fondle an M6 with a KL2 on it (I think these are the right model #s) and while it was cool, it was just too big to me since getting used to the E2E. I'm also suffering from a slight case of sticker shock (rare for me). I might have nearly $300.00 invested in my entire budding flashlight collection, but even to me, that seems like a lot of money for a single light.

For the record. If I make it until then I will be 58 in Feb and that is a lot of candles in a darkened room

The E2e-HA is a bit smaller than the others. That little bit can be all the difference in your pocket. Plus, the E2e has a pocket clip, I don't believe the others do...

Everyone,

I was crising the net looking for a good price for the Surefire when I ran across this.

http://www.goncz.net/m2.html Anyone know about this light. A standard of 118 lumens from a two CR123 cell LED light but it doesn't give the battery life.

The short answer on the Goncz light is that it would be wise to wait-and-see ... let the lights actually get into the hands of evaluators first, since we think he's taking some liberties with his specs.

The longer answer is, Goncz created quite a firestorm on candlepowerforums. Part of the problem is that Goncz is more of a tempermental genius than the kind of guy who understands how to use the internet to his advantage (contrast with Peter Gransee or Sal Glesser). Many people came down hard on him because of his abusive behavior, but I'm willing to let him slide if the products are really that good. However, when some early lights made it into the hands of some evaluators, they just plain didn't live up to specs, according to the reviews. If I remember correctly, Goncz claimed that the lamps in the early models weren't up to spec, and that the production versions would meet specs.

I remain hopeful that Goncz can pull of what he says, because the specs on his lights are dynamite. I am sceptical based on what I've seen so far, so I'd strongly recommend sticking with Surefire at this time.

I was in the smae position as you. Until I went ot a gun show and a dealer there had every Surefire made. I chose a C2. Reason was it put out a little more light than the E2, was upgradeable with different options, but the big kicker was it was a lot easier to hold than the E2. It isn't that much bigger in the pocket, just feels better in the hand. I clip mine in my pocket everyday. Doesn't get in the way at all. Goes in just like a clipped knife. Try to comparew the two in person and you will see.

Thanks everyone, I decided on getting the E2e HA and if I wait around until I can handle them all I will probably decide to do something stupid with the money like pay Xmas bills. I decided to get the E2 because I have a hard time segregating my coins and keys into separate pocket. My knives tend to get beat up and so will this E2 with the HA option maybe I can stave off some of the damage.

http://www.ultimateblades.com/surefire2.htm seems to have the best price at $62 and I will be calling them tomorrow afternoon to check on availability and shipping costs but if anyone knows of a better place please don't be shy.

Thanks again
Gary
