Am I just not seeing them? I was trying to find some more info out about the Smallfly but I don't see them anywhere on the website.

I believe they are a "Law Enforcement Only" product. They had a rather rough experience with the Federal Governmet a couple years back on that same issue, so I can't hold it against them. Still would like one myself though.

Weird...they're totally legal in my state, and I wasn't aware of a federal law on ones that are made in the US. I wish they'd at least put the info on their website and just say "LEO only"

Better to be safe than sorry, especially when dealing with the Feds. You can find them on various E-stores.

They may be totally legal in your state, but they aren't civilian legal in Colorado where Spyderco is. Having them on their website would in effect be advertising illegal weapons. They don't even hand out their restricted item catalog unless you've filled out the proper paperwork. Thank a lawyer if that makes you mad.

It's not the lawyers, it's the politicians and the people who vote for them. Now that I know they're illegal in CO, it makes more sense.

So...what's the blade thickness on the Smallfly?

Most politicians are lawyers.

Most politicians are lawyers.

I'm not so sure about that, but most laws are written by lawyers, in that special language they use to prevent the true meaning from being clear. That way, in court they can make it mean whatever thay want. ;)

Sorry I can't help on the Smallfly blade thickness. I'm not one of those elite few that can get information on the restricted items.

Check it out. Most politicians have law degrees and are members of the bar. Senators, Congressmen, Governors, Presidents, lobbyists, etc.

I believe the law they fell afoul of was a prohibition against sending balisongs ( automatics are prohibeted as well, I think) through the USPS. I'm sure there's someone that can verify that, but i'm not finding any articles or posts. As far as I know, the Spyderco balisongs were designed to be legal under Colorado law, as they do not lock open, but laws change.
