why are finish/handle options so specific/limited?

Jerry's whims or sheer artistic license?
Supply chain issues?
A desire to use only existing inventory?
Significant cost issues in general?

What's so hard about always offering some basics, like plain ole Magnum Black G10 with machined grooves?

Why are DC options so rare, yet apparently quite popular?

Is Orange G10 that much more rare or somehow hard to work with?

Is there some genius plan behind these choices, or the lack thereof, that I'm missing? Please, those in the know, share...

I just like the plain ones, Satin or DC, with Black G10, yet I'd swear (if I were the type) there's a conspiracy against plain and simple combos.

Arrrrrrrrrggggg.

The FBM had so many options it blew my mind.. that was around the time I discovered Busse. The badger was also pretty good.. after that the options really dropped off for some reason

If I could get a DC NMSFNO with green linen or tiger hide mags I'd probably snatch it up. The black and red combo from the BAD or the combo from the Nuclear EDC would be cool too. I'm not a big fan of black handles, G10 or micarta.
Heh, I've been very opinionated lately. I just want my perfect slightly-larger-than-mid-size-knife and I haven't found it yet.

i would have really liked to see standard handles as an option . . . that was one of the biggest reasons i didn't get an NMFBM, and it's the biggest reason i'm not getting more than one NMSFNO

I wish I should get tigerhide, or some other nice micarta without an obscene mark up. But I suppose if they had tiger hide on CG's and only marked it by how much extra the layered material is no one would bother with the regular stuff.

I really wanted a satin (or at least DC) with black micarta. I'll just have to strip her I suppose.

Is it a PITA/money thing? Would it have to cost an extra $10/blade to offer more choices, $20, $40, what? Surely there's a point where it makes sense for everyone, short of the Custom Shop route...

To have to go the Custom Shop route, or a 3rd party customizer (or to do it myself), on a knife that costs a few hundred or more already, when the basic combos I like are indeed fairly basic and common - just no offered consistently, man it sucks...

And it's all so random too. No disrespect intended, but as a user/non-collector who couldn't care less about fancy, exotic, or colorful combos - it's especially annoying. I tell ya what - it's a testament to INFI, the blade designs, the warranty, and this fine community that I stay around despite these frustrations.

rant off. ;)

If it's sheer variety of finish, slabs, and thickness your looking for, just take a look at the Busse Game Wardens on Lunde's page - not only is its a great, practical, and affordable EDC/user, I think there were something on the order of 36 combinations - and that's not including custom shop numbers!
May you find what you seek.
Cheers,

Machined Black G-10 and Double Cut on the NMSFNO was what I wanted most of all and I am quite disappointed it wasn't available. I had planned on ordering 2, now I'll only get 1...

I was hoping to get my first INFI direct from Busse as well, but just like DowntownDM, I like the satin & DC finishes and do not personally care for the tiger hide. I'm still considering stripping a CG or replacing handles on the LE, but I agree, it would be easier to order it that way. I may sit out this round and just look for deals that come the way I want them on the exchange. Although, it looks like the leftovers from Knob Creek should be cool and may have more stuff to my liking....

I would definitely have ordered another if satin or DC was offered.

Seems like these days if you want a satin your only choices are ganza (custom), Company Store, LE, or strip it.

hehehe, happy camper here!

There's gotta be a killer ganzaa coming up. So long as it's not on Halloween and preferably on a mid-week evening. We can all score something to our liking.

BTW...just in case you didn't already know, I'm a big fan of plain old hunter orange G10 too....can't wait for that to come up again....its been years.

Maybe the credit crunch means they have to limit the materials they can order at one time these days. Would have been nice to have orange/black G10 considering the time of year (halloween) instead of the Black/Tan G10. I think the orange/black would have worked well with most of the blade finishes.
