Why are GEC knives in 440c when tidioute are 1095?

Why is it that GEC knives come with 440C steel when tidioute and northfield knives use 1095?

Doesn't GEC, tidioute and northfield have some kind of partnership?

Please don't misunderstand, I'm not complaining about their choice of steel.
